Over the last decade, Grand Theft Auto Online has continued to evolve and grow, culminating in one of the most expansive multiplayer experiences currently available. There are a plethora of complex systems at play at all times in GTA Online, from mechanical systems like shooting and driving, to social systems like VIP abilities, to Online-exclusive systems like businesses and shared open-world activities, all of which are occurring simultaneously. It's these interweaving systems that make Grand Theft Auto Online feel so alive, and it's that atmosphere that's kept fans coming back for over a decade now.

Grand Theft Auto Online has laid some incredible foundations for Grand Theft Auto 6's presumed multiplayer component, but with this being the next mainline installment - and one that fans have waited a long time for - there are some very big, very real expectations that GTA 6 is going to take everything to the next level. And while some of GTA Online's systems will be tricky to evolve, there's a clear way its apartments can be improved.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Online Should Let Players Share Apartments

How Sharing Apartments Could Benefit Players in GTA 6

Apartments in Grand Theft Auto Online are a great idea in theory, but in practice, it feels as though they've never reached their full potential. Split into low, medium, and high-end, GTA Online's apartments only really allow the player to watch the in-game TV channels, spectate other players via CCTV, store a few vehicles in the garage, and start Heists. There are plenty of ways that GTA Online's apartments could be improved in Grand Theft Auto 6, but one big evolution would be to allow friends to purchase and share an apartment as a group.

The most expensive apartment currently in GTA Online is the Diamond Casino's Master Penthouse, which can cost just over $6 million if players buy every available extension and upgrade.

Grand Theft Auto 6 allowing players to group together to purchase a shared apartment would have a number of obvious benefits, the first of which is that players would be able to get an apartment sooner, along with the various benefits that it would potentially bring, such as a sizable garage for everyone in the group. Having shared apartments could also pave the way for some increased functionality and incentives to actually buy the property, such as a cash bonus for co-op Heists, a rooftop helipad that stores players' aircraft, or the option to attach a business to it that all players could earn a passive income from.

Making this simple change could drastically improve GTA's apartments, finally turning them into these social hubs that Rockstar has been seemingly trying to create for a decade now. If players all shared the same space, spawned there together, and had more activities to monitor and partake in, then GTA 6's apartments would see more use than GTA Online's ever did.

Larger-Scale Apartments Could Give GTA 6 More Creative License

If Grand Theft Auto 6 embraces the concept of shared apartments, then that could pave the way for some more creative property types in the future. For instance, with a larger space to work with, GTA 6 could have apartments that look as grand as Scarface's mansion, as bombastic as a James Bond villain's evil lair, and a whole load of other pop-culture references, all of which feel like homages that GTA would make.
