Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 is increasingly on the minds of its millions of fans, all eagerly awaiting any and all further news regarding it. Grand Theft Auto 6 has already been hotly anticipated for years at this point, as it is set to deliver the next satire-soaked story and massively detailed sandbox city for players to explore and engage in the hijinks that the franchise is famous for. Last December, gamers were finally given a few teasers in GTA 6's first reveal trailer, which sparked the latest round of speculation and fan theories about its direction and plot components.

Rockstar is known for testing the limits of narrative along with outrageous action in GTA, and one of the trio of protagonists from GTA 5, Trevor Philips, is a sort of mascot and embodiment of this spirit of the series itself. With this in mind, as well as the studio's penchant for both Easter eggs and more obvious references to previous games' escapades, Rockstar has a golden opportunity to have Trevor return in GTA 6 in an on-brand fashion that calls back to the encounter between him and GTA 4's Johnny Klebitz.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Should Bring Back Trevor, Only to Have Him Meet Johnny's Fate

When Grand Theft Auto 4's Johnny Met GTA 5's Trevor

2008's Grand Theft Auto 4 was a considerable leap forward for the series at the time, with its New York replica Liberty City the most realistic and lifelike locale the franchise had given fans up to then. Among its more mature and grittier (even for GTA) story arcs, was motorcycle gang member, Johnny Klebitz. Johnny appeared in the main plot, but featured as the playable protagonist in The Lost and the Damned DLC, which saw fans experiencing events from his perspective. Organically fleshing him out further, the DLC painted a picture of Johnny as a complicated and conflicted character, one who could also be sympathized with at times, and served as an excellent addition to GTA 4's tale.

Coming at the tail end of the same gaming generation as GTA 4, but lasting well into the next couple, Grand Theft Auto 5's massive map went even further as a technical feat that remains impressive in its inspiring detail and design. GTA 5 also featured a trio of main cast, with players being able to switch between them. During the course, Trevor is shown to be doing business with Johnny, but a heated altercation results in a shocking yet simultaneously fitting moment where Trevor brutally ends Johnny. This scene served as a stark reminder that, in GTA's world, no character, regardless of popularity or status, was necessarily safe, especially from even more unhinged ones.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Should Come Full Circle by Having One of its Major Characters Kill Off Trevor

Grand Theft Auto has featured characters from past games, as well as other elements, creating a sense of continuity between its larger setting, often pleasing and surprising players with these inclusions in the process. Given Trevor's status and personality, having him return in GTA 6 only to subsequently meet a similar end to Johnny's would be a fantastic way to keep up this tradition, while providing a perfectly fitting conclusion for the character. Rockstar could decide to lean into the beats it's already well-known for and expected to have, and continue to raise the narrative stakes in this way.

Trevor's actor, Steven Ogg, has been known to engage in GTA-like antics in real-life, and fans would surely welcome his return, even, or perhaps especially, if it's done via a version of what Trevor inflicted on Johnny. It would be a kind of poetically karmic comeuppance, and one which would serve to strengthen the franchise's connective tissue while also pushing the envelope, as Rockstar is prone to do. While it will still be a while before fans see firsthand what GTA 6 has in store, a move like this would be well within its purview and could continue to reinforce its place among gaming's narratives.
