Rockstar Games, the studio behind industry-defining blockbuster franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, has broken a Twitter record when it confirmed its plan to unveil the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 early next month. September marked the ten-year anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online, which has managed to retain a massive dedicated playerbase for the entire decade since its release.

Regardless of GTA Online's ongoing success, fans have been growing quite restless with the lack of any official Grand Theft Auto 6 news from Rockstar. Coupled with Rockstar's recent missteps with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy and the Red Dead Redemption Switch and PS4 ports, sentiment surrounding the studio has taken a bit of a dive as of late. There have been a number of leaks and rumors floating around over the past several years pertaining to GTA 6's potential Vice City setting and featuring male and female dual-protagonists, but none of them have been officially confirmed as of yet.

Most recently, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier revealed that Rockstar is planning to unveil Grand Theft Auto 6 next week, with a full trailer to come in December around Rockstar's 25th anniversary. Shortly afterward, Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser used the official Rockstar Twitter account to compose a short and simple tweet confirming the studio's plans to drop Grand Theft Auto 6's first trailer early in December. Popular gaming news account Okami Games pointed out that the tweet had since been viewed a whopping 75 million times and has garnered over one million likes. This is all likely thanks in part to Rockstar's 17.5 million Twitter followers and the post's 384,000 retweets.

Okami went on to mention that this simple tweet from Rockstar Games has quickly become the most liked gaming-related tweet ever, which is even more impressive considering it doesn't even contain an image or video, and was the fourth tweet in a thread by Rockstar waxing poetic about its 25th anniversary. With the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 officially just around the corner, it's not out of the question that it may become Rockstar's most viewed reveal trailer ever. Grand Theft Auto 5's reveal trailer from 2011 has racked up a mind-blowing 90 million views, and the initial reveal of its most recent title, Red Dead Redemption 2, is nothing to scoff at either, with 22 million hits on YouTube.

When Can Fans Expect The Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer?

Since Rockstar's 25th anniversary is on December 10, it's entirely possible that the studio may drop Grand Theft Auto 6's highly anticipated reveal trailer right on its own anniversary, as GTA is undoubtedly Rockstar's defining flagship franchise. As for whether a release date or window will be attached, considering it's been so long since GTA 5, development could be pretty close to wrapping up if it hasn't concluded already. A 2024 release window wouldn't be out of the question, though this isn't confirmed as of yet. However, fans may have an answer about a month from now.
