A Grand Theft Auto 5 player's single-player story mode was recently invaded by hackers. Grand Theft Auto 5 offers two distinct experiences for players to experience, with fans able to play through an extensive single-player story in addition to a massive online multiplayer mode.

Most of the time, the Grand Theft Auto 5 story mode and the GTA Online component are kept completely separate. In fact, Rockstar has even gone as far as to release a standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online in the years since its original release. Due to the very nature of Grand Theft Auto, GTA Online tends to have a lot of griefers who actively try to ruin other players' time in the game. Those playing the Grand Theft Auto 5 story mode usually don't have to worry about griefers, but sometimes they manage to force their way to the single-player mode.

This recently happened to Reddit user LUClFER666, who provided video evidence of player-controlled characters invading his Grand Theft Auto 5 story mode. The GTA griefers repeatedly killed the Reddit user, making it impossible for LUClFER666 to complete their mission. This happened in the PC version of GTA 5; it's unclear if it's possible in other versions of the game.

Some may be quick to dismiss the video as fake, but this wouldn't be the first time that the single-player GTA 5 story mode has been invaded by hackers. Reports of this first cropped up at least five years ago. It's not a widespread problem by any means, so the vast majority of Grand Theft Auto 5 players on PC generally don't have to worry about getting targeted by griefers when playing single-player, but it's still rather strange that it's possible to begin with.

It will be interesting to see how Rockstar Games tackles issues of griefing in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. As it stands, there is very little known about Grand Theft Auto 6 in an official capacity. While Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks have seemingly confirmed that there will be a male and female protagonist and that the game takes place in Vice City, all that Rockstar has said officially is that the game is in development. Grand Theft Auto 6 will presumably feature its own online multiplayer mode to go with its single-player story, but it remains to be seen just how different it will be from the currently-available GTA Online and how it may potentially prevent griefing from happening.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
