Grand Theft Auto V has a lot of personalities with varying backgrounds. Everyone knows the stories about the three main protagonists, but rarely do gamers pay attention to the NPCs of the game unless they are deep into the lore of the game.
While other video games have prominent NPCs, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is one of the few that provides small details to all of them regardless of their stature in the game. Like their protagonist counterparts, they all have some sort of story to tell. But unlike the glitz or glamour that is usually presented, their stories take a sorrowful turn.
7 Runaway Bride
This unnamed NPC is found hanging near a church on Route 68. She calls out for the player to help her escape from a wedding. When given a lift, she reveals that she is about to marry a successful man. However, the individual in question had anger problems, among other issues such as cheating.
Later during the event, the groom comes out of nowhere and chases the bride and the player. His crazed antics almost cost the player and the bride their lives by trying to ram them off the road.
6 Mary-Ann Quinn

Gamers encounter Mary-Ann Quinn in the game as one of the Strangers and Freaks characters. A devoted fitness guru, she challenges the protagonists to various fitness challenges, such as swimming to bike racing.
Depending on the character interacting with Mary-Ann, she provides different glimpses of her life. For example, if the player is Franklin, she states that winning is "everything." If playing as Trevor, she is yelling at an individual regarding their relationship, in which she solely pins the blame on him. Mary-Ann's life seems to just be centered around fitness as a way to fill in a missing void in her life.
5 Antonia Bottino
A player first encounters Antonia Bottino around a dirt track near Paleto Bay. There they find her in a predicament where her life is at stake. She is very open to the three main characters, revealing her past candidly.
There she explains her father was a former boss for the Gambetti Crime Family. Fans of Grand Theft Auto IV will find that family name familiar as they played a role during the events of that game. Antonia's family had to go into hiding after the father was convicted, so they went out west. He later turned into an informant after a plea bargain. That resulted in enemies coming after everyone he is connected to, such as his daughter Antonia.
4 Girl Hitchhiking
This unnamed character hangs around Sandy Shores. She calls after the player to take her to the Vinewood Sign. During the ride, she reveals via the dialog that she is a carefree individual involved in debaucheries in the desert only because she is still young.
Along the way, the player accuses her of only staying in a relationship with her boyfriend because of money. She later gets into a small fight with her boyfriend during a phone call, where she gets accused of cheating with another man named Brian. The player later gets into a fight with the boyfriend because of that.
3 Mrs. Philips
Another Strangers and Freaks character, but this time this NPC has a closer connection to one of the protagonists. Mrs. Phillips is Trevor's mother. Before their small reunion, Trevor periodically dropped hints that his mother was neglectful and abusive when they were together. She later disappeared from his life.
During the events of Grand Theft Auto V, she claims she is in a lot of pain and requires a lot of drugs. She asks Trevor to acquire some painkillers. Trevor agrees and later finds a van filled with them. When he delivers the substance to her place, she is no longer there.
2 Patricia Madrazo
Patricia Madrazo is another NPC with close ties to Trevor. She is married to cartel leader Martin Madrazo. During their time together, Matin frequently abused and cheated on her.
When Trevor "rescued" her later in the game, she starts liking him. But it could be said that the interest in Trevor is the result of Stockholm syndrome after years of abuse from the previous relationship. However, Trevor seems to hold the same feelings towards her.
1 Lazlow Jones
Lazlow Jones has been a prominent NPC throughout the Grand Theft Auto franchise starting with Grand Theft Auto 3. Up until the events of Grand Theft Auto V, he was only shown (or heard) as a DJ for various radio stations. Keen listeners can see the progression of the state of his well-being with each new installment.
Throughout his career, he was not only fired from various radio stations but also faced several accusations against him. In the events of Grand Theft Auto V, he is portrayed to be more unhinged. He is self-loathing and depressed, yearning for eternal stardom.
