Granblue Fantasy Versus is a fighting game based on the incredibly popular Granblue Fantasy mobile game, featuring beautifully drawn characters and ornate weapons. Granblue Fantasy Versus takes the characters of the mobile game and converts them into Arc System Works's signature anime rendering, making for an incredibly beautiful fighting game.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is known for being much simpler than other fighting games, featuring a simplified combo system and shortcuts for special moves. Nevertheless, some characters take more time to get used to than others. Here are some characters that are fairly easy to use, even for beginners.

10 Lowain

GBVS Beginners Lowain and his brothers performing the Human Pyramid Attack

Lowain is the closest to a joke character in Granblue Fantasy's roster. With goofy animations, awkward attacks, and gimmicky special moves, Lowain may not immediately seem like a great character for beginners. In fact, he is generally a fairly weak character which might discourage new players from trying him.

However, Lowain does have one strength: his extremely powerful Skybound Arts, which allow him to turn the tables on his opponent easily. His Super Skybound Art is infamous for being extremely hard to deal with. Lowain is a great character for scoring some wins, though he may not be the best for learning the game.

9 Vaseraga

GBVS Beginners Vaseraga head shot

Vaseraga is easily the largest character in the game, being a hulking mass of armor and muscle. His weapon is similarly big, allowing him to have strong reach despite his rather slow walk speed.

Vaseraga specializes in armored moves, allowing him to advance and attack without being interrupted by his opponent's attacks. Vaseraga's armored moves can more than make up for his lack of speed, and can catch an unprepared opponent off guard. Beginners may find him awkward to use, but Vaseraga has a fairly simple gameplan that is easy to get used to.

8 Yuel

GBVS Beginners Yuel about to release her Skybound Art

Quick, sprightly, and acrobatic, the dual-wielding Yuel joined Granblue Fantasy Versus's roster with the second season of DLC. Many of the DLC characters came with unique mechanics that made them more complex, and Yuel is no different with a stance-switching mechanic that gives her multiple movesets.

However, the second stance isn't necessary to learn how to play Yuel, as many of her base moveset and special moves are rather straightforward to use. A beginner learning to play the game can stick to Yuel's basic moveset and do fairly well, while taking their time to learn the nuances behind her alternate stance.

7 Lancelot

GBVS Beginners Lancelot finishing with his super

The speedy ice-specialist Lancelot is specifically well-known for his agility and lightning-fast offense. Lancelot has a lot of tricky movement-based maneuvers that make it hard for opponents to keep track of him, allowing players to utilize his speed to create potent mix-ups.

While such tricky maneuvers may be out of reach for a beginner, Lancelot is still a good character for new players to pick up. His moveset features a standard fireball and invincible move, and his speed allows beginners to assert offense more easily than with other characters.

6 Zeta

GBVS Beginners Zeta brandishing her spear

Like Lancelot, Zeta is a very offensive character that allows players to jump into offense without much forethought. She has a decent amount of range, with charging attacks that close the distance between her and her opponent and a beam attack that destroys projectiles.

Zeta's unique action Signo Drive gives beginners a simple way to assert pressure by mashing only one button. She also has a few tricky moves like an armored counter, but her gameplan is incredibly straightforward. Beginners will find her quite easy to pick up.

5 Percival

GBVS Beginners Percival about to use his Skybound Art

Percival has a fairly standard playstyle with a few unique mechanics to make him stand out. His core mechanic is the Traumerei Orbs, which power up his special moves. Maintaining a decent stock of Traumerei Orbs is very important for Percival, which may make him a bit complex for new players.

Still, new players should definitely try out Percival if they are looking for a beginner-friendly character. Percival has strong range on his normal attacks and a well-rounded collection of special moves, with a fireball and an invincible reversal. Learning to manage Percival's unique resource is fairly simple once the player has a handle on his gameplan.

4 Charlotta

GBVS Beginners Charlotta about to use her Skybound Art

Despite her small stature, Charlotta is a surprisingly potent character in Granblue Fantasy Versus's roster. She has very short range due to her short limbs, and she struggles with zoners due to a lack of ranged attacks. Nevertheless, Charlotta is an oppressive rushdown character with plenty of strengths.

Charlotta is able to close the distance with ease and pressure her opponents with a variety of tricky and oppressive attacks. In addition, she has a strong defense with a parry that easily counters any attack that hits her. While she is not as potent as she used to be, Charlotta is a great pick for new players who favor offensive tactics.

3 Djeeta

GBVS Beginners Djeeta about to use her Super Skybound Art

Djeeta is the female counterpart to Gran, the protagonist of Granblue Fantasy, and joined the roster as part of the Season 1 DLC. As a result, Djeeta is surprisingly similar to Gran, featuring similar movesets and special moves. Since Gran is designed to be beginner-friendly, it stands to reason that Djeeta is similarly so.

However, Djeeta does have some unique aspects that differentiate her from Gran. She has the unique ability to charge her fireballs, as well as a complicated input that makes her Skybound Art even stronger. These aspects make her a little harder to use than Gran, though they are hardly necessary to use the character well.

2 Katalina

GBVS Beginners Katalina using her Super Skybound Art

At the beginning of the game's life, Katalina was often seen as the slowever, more neutral-heavy counterpart to Gran, who was a bit more offensive. Katalina has a very basic moveset, including a fireball and an invincible reversal, that allows her to play a patient game and control the fight's pace.

Compared to Gran, Katalina specialized in long range attacks that allowed her to easily push her opponent into the corner. While her strengths have weakened over the years, she is still a potent character for new players to pick.

1 Gran

GBVS Beginners Gran using his Skybound Art

Gran is the male protagonist of Granblue Fantasy, and one of the most easily recognizable characters from the franchise. As a result, he is made to be as beginner-friendly as possible, as he is the character most people would be likely to play.

Gran's moveset is incredibly basic, featuring a fireball and an invincible reversal. Compared to Katalina, Gran is much more offensive, though he can play slowly if necessary. Gran's simple gameplan and basic moveset make him a perfect character for beginners to learn the game.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is available now for PC and PS4.
