It has been some time since Granblue Fantasy: Relink was last shown publically. Understandable, given that the game was first revealed in 2017 and has had a tumultuous development cycle since. Regardless, the cooperative action-RPG has left a lot of fans anxious to see more, which Cygames is now happy to abide. The new Granblue Fantasy: Relink trailer provides a lengthy look at its "Mega Fleet Battle," a massive extended sequence that includes a boss battle.

The "Mega Fleet Battle" video features 22 minutes of gameplay from Granblue Fantasy: Relink. This includes an early look at the game's protagonist and their basic combat abilities, as well as potential party members. The demo then takes the squad of four into the fleet battle itself, where an airship is being attacked by a variety of other ships. The player works to destroy the other ships with a giant gun while also fighting enemies that drop from the sky.

The final six or so minutes are dedicated to a boss fight with a large armored man who wields a giant lance. The fight comes across as a mix of not just an action-RPG fight, but also an MMO fight, with lots of attack prompts players have to dodge in and out of. It's also a great showcase of some of the massive attacks and chained combos that players can execute.

To close out the trailer, Cygames confirms that Granblue Fantasy: Relink is targeting a 2022 release date. That's not too surprising, given that development went through such a big transition process with Platinum Games being detached from the project. Still, it's a long ways left to go for fans who have already been waiting for multiple years.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink releases 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
