Gran Turismo has earned its place as an iconic PlayStation exclusive franchise, and the console's foremost driving game genre title. Dating all the way back to the first game on the PS1 in 1997 and seeing a game release on every major PlayStation console since, Gran Turismo remains the highest selling franchise under the Sony brand.

Sony's best-selling individual title, including sales of its remaster, has been The Last of Us, released in 2013. The game's popularity led to not only a highly anticipated sequel, The Last of Us Part 2, released in 2020, but to droves of fans wishing to express their appreciation for the game and its characters with everything from fan-art to music to even tattoos.

It’s no surprise then, to find there is a large crossover of PlayStation owners that are fans of both of these Sony exclusive titles. Reddit user u/nascarfan624 is one such fan, using the livery editor first introduced to the series in 2017’s Gran Turismo Sport to design a car inspired by the world of The Last of Us Part 2, specifically one of the game's factions, the Fireflies.

Suitably rusted up and with a huge Fireflies logo painted across the hood, the livery looks worthy of the Last of Us’ vision of the post-apocalypse. Perhaps if things had gone a little more the way of Mad Max in the world of the Last of Us, a car like this one would fit right in tearing up the roads of the post-apocalypse.

The car chosen as the base for this fan’s Last of Us makeover is the Nissan Fairlady Z, a commendable choice of car for the post-apocalypse. This car achieved cult-classic status throughout the 70s because of its looks and its racing pedigree, especially in rallying. More recently it was used as the hero car of the Japanese manga and anime series, Wangan Midnight, a series that also had its own PlayStation exclusive title back on the PS3. The car would actually make quite a good choice for the world of the Last of Us, being from the 1970s it would still be very mechanical, without many electrical components to worry about, also its cult-classic status should mean spare parts were somewhat available.

Seeing a car done in this style does raise questions about where all the cars are in the world of the Last of Us. A few cars are seen to be working throughout the games, but most are dramatically abandoned, gridlocked on highways, untouched relics for the entire 20+ years since the cordyceps outbreak. Perhaps the classic cars locked away in climate-controlled garages have all been stripped apart and turned into Ellie's brutal makeshift zombie-bashing weapons.
