Sony dropped a Gran Turismo movie sneak preview involving Archie Madekwe, who plays Jann Mardenbourough, and supporting cast members Orlando Bloom, David Harbour, and more.

Gran Turismo, both the real-life racing event and the long-running and uber-popular racing game series, are two words that get the blood pumping in the veins of race fans everywhere. When Sony announced that Neill Blomkamp would be directing an adaptation based on the real-life story of Mardenborough, the rubber met the road.

The Gran Turismo movie sneak preview opens with a helicopter shot over a field of race cars decked out to the nines in all the team logos and the latest high-tech wizardry that allow a machine, which once had its biggest breakthrough be when it could simply be manufactured on an assembly line, race at 200 miles per hour and more while maintaining complete control. It cuts to Madekwe revving his engine, pulling on his gloves, and adjusting his helmet before he introduces everyone to the event at hand. He explains how excited everyone involved in the Gran Turismo film is to show audiences a little bit of the pulse-pounding action they can expect when it hits theaters.

The technology used on Gran Turismo makes the races look for ground driving like what filmmakers did for aerial stunts in the record-breaking Top Gun: Maverick; technology and action melded in a blinding flash of spectacle. Bloom, who plays executive Danny Moore in the upcoming film says the movie is, “Made for the cinema." Harbour, who plays Mardenborough's trainer, says the film has, “Badass race car action you’re going to feel like you’re in the middle of.” The film also has all the elements of a proper story, love, drama, and, of course, more racing.

Gran Turismo is based on the real-life rise of Mardenborough, a young man who had no genuine interest in racing until he entered Nissan's own Gran Turismo gaming academy. He quickly rose through the ranks, beating out over 90,000 competitors and eventually put his skills honed in the game on the real-life track. After getting credentialed in only a little over 6 months, he started winning races almost as fast as he could enter them. And if the Gran Turismo sneak peek offered by Sony is anything to go by, fans will feel like they’re right there in Mardenborough's driver’s seat as he blasts his way around the track.

Gran Turismo races into theaters on August 11, 2023.
