Polyphony Digital officially announces Gran Turismo 7 for PS5. The game was leaked several weeks ago by a racing game accessory manufacturer but the developer took to the PS5 reveal event to officially confirm the game.

Not much is known about Gran Turismo 7 other than it will look extremely good. The PS5 specs do offer support for ray-tracing and it's very possible that Polyphony, which is famous for its incredibly detailed recreations of vehicles, will be using that in its game.

The game is also likely to make use of the haptic feedback technology in the PS5's DualSense controller. The controller allows players to get a more physical sense of a game, as developers can use it for far more than the rumbles and basic vibrations that were possible with the PS4's DualShock 4 controller.

A Gran Turismo 7 career mode was also teased with a very short look at a map overview with several different icons on it. Polyphony didn't offer any information about what to expect but the Gran Turismo series has typically featured a variety of races and car categories and that's probably the plan here.

Unfortunately, no Gran Turismo 7 release date was given. It seems unlikely that the game will be a PS5 launch title like the likes of Fortnite, which has been confirmed as a launch title for PS5 and Xbox Series X. This doesn't make it any less of an important game for the console's strategy though as Gran Turismo 7 could help to really flex the PS5's graphical strength. The PS5's fast SSD could really help with the smaller details often seen on the cars in the series.

PS5 players will have their choice of racing games in the first year after the console's launch. Last month, Dirt 5 was announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X. It will offer a 120FPS mode on Xbox Series X though it has not been confirmed if this will be available on PS5. A new Need for Speed game is also in development and though EA hasn't said when this will be released, it gives racing fans on PS5 another title to get excited about.

Gran Turismo 7 is in development exclusively for PS5.
