With Gotham Knights showing players a Gotham City with a dead Batman, it’s now up to gamers and the way they build Bruce Wayne’s respective proteges that the fate of the city could be decided. Thankfully, aside from the game’s existing two-person co-op mode, players may also be able to pull off Gotham Knights multiplayer in other modes, such as fighting against a juiced-up boss in Showdown, or across multiple levels in Heroic Assault.

For players curious about how they and their friends can duke it out against Gotham’s nastiest, perhaps finding the best way to engage in multiplayer could be their best bet. Aside from having a more thorough understanding of the game’s multiplayer components, players of Gotham Knights should also be aware of how they can optimize their builds and combat strategies to accommodate the presence of multiple players.

7 Psychologically Prepare For The Co-Op Formats

Teaming up in Gotham Knights

Aside from understanding the different mechanics of each multiplayer mode in Gotham Knights gameplay, it could be extremely useful to remember the nature of possible teammates players could gather. Unlike other games, there are a multitude of ways players can recruit teammates for their sessions, meaning they can get to play with different kinds of people in a multiplayer round. This can be extremely stressful if players get paired with teammates that aren’t communicative or don’t share the same goals as them.

To prepare in advance, players may want to psychologically prepare themselves for the various kinds of teammates they can meet. In the main menu, the Multiplayer-Quick Match option sends players to a random person’s world, meaning they need to be prepared to be directed to certain goals or objectives that player needs to accomplish with their assistance. Likewise, the Privacy option in the game also allows players to customize which kinds of players can enter their world. The “Friends Only “and “Invited Players” are the most convenient, as these are likely people the player already play with or are prepared to play with. Meanwhile, it helps to prepare for different personalities clashing when the “Friends of Friends” or “Public” options are chosen.

6 Communicate To Achieve Goals

When playing with different players, it’s important for the squad to remain communicative with each other, especially in the high-octane multiplayer modes of a Batman game like Gotham Knights. With Showdown featuring super-juiced bosses and Heroic Assault having more difficult levels with objectives, it would greatly help a squad if its team members actively communicate what they’re doing or what they need help with.

The game’s comms allows players to state whether they need assistance or what they plan on doing, which can become a great way to divide tasks and maximize the time they have in sessions. Players should remember to remain respectful and properly communicative in order to ensure everyone has a good time.

5 Prioritize Cooperative Skills

Skill trees have become an invaluable part of Gotham Knights gameplay, especially in how they’re able to capitalize on a particular skillset of a Batman protege. While each character has a different name for their three (3) skill trees (minus Knighthood), each of these skill trees have a particular priority: the first one focuses on building damage, the second one prioritizes survivability, the third one provides gimmicks such as Gotham Knights gadgets, and Knighthood provides room for synergies.

In the case of co-op mode, it may be ideal for players to prioritize the third skill tree of their characters of choice as they’re usually optimized for multiplayer. For instance, Red Hood’s Vengeance helps him deal more damage to specific enemies while his allies bring more pain on a single target. Meanwhile, Batgirl’s Oracle and Robin’s Tinkering trees focus on gadgets that provide utility, usually in the form of AOE. Lastly, Nightwing’s Pack Leader tree emphasizes the provision of various buffs to allies.

4 Skip Out On Stealth

As with the famous Batman quote “I am the night,” stealth is an important aspect of Gotham Knights gameplay, especially since it can help catch enemies by surprise and allow each Batman protege to wreak havoc without fear of being struck back. However, in the case of the more straightforward cooperative modes, stealth shouldn’t be a priority for players.

Instead of focusing on stealth builds, be it based on Gotham Knights suit styles, weapons, or even skills, players who want to focus on Showdown and Heroic Assault should go all-out in their damage builds. Given how players will always face multiple foes and super-jacked bosses, pure damage toolkits are the way to go to ensure enemies are eliminated swiftly.

3 Versus Mobs: Area Damage Is Key

Given how the multiplayer mode allows Gotham Knights gameplay to accommodate different Batman proteges in the same session, enemies are likely going to have a tougher time dealing with the Dark Knight’s students. And while players will naturally have an easier time clearing up crime in the streets of Gotham, it will be especially more convenient if they knew how to optimize their approach in combat.

At its core, players of the Batman game should prioritize area damage to deal as much damage to enemies as possible. In solo mode, AOE attacks are a great way of clearing mobs, and this is especially more apparent in multiplayer where groups of mobs can try to overwhelm players and their allies. Throwing multiple AOE attacks in different areas can eliminate mobs much quicker and allow players to finish their objectives more efficiently.

2 Versus Supercharged Bosses: Single Target Is Paramount

Fighting a boss in Gotham Knights

Compared to the usual multiplayer mode of Gotham Knights, the Showdown mode acts more of a super-boss arena than an open world experience. And while these Batman bosses will always call upon the occasional elite foe to distract the players, the Gotham Knights in this mode must prioritize their single-target damage Abilities to get the upper hand.

Remember, Showdown mode skips the unnecessary exploration and gets to the supercharged boss fights right away, meaning there’s not much need to clear mobs with AOE. Instead, players should prioritize amping up their single-target damage arsenal and secure stats such as Critical Hits and improved base attack damage in order to dish out the most pain against these soaped-up bosses.

1 Clear Objectives First

Defending an objective in Gotham Knights coop

In order to add a bit of complexity to the multiplayer suite of Gotham Knights gameplay, the Heroic Assault mode also ensures players need to complete certain challenges to progress in each of its 30 floors. While it’s sheer fun to see all four (4) Gotham Knights duke it out against Gotham’s nastiest, it’s careless for players to skip out on objectives just to ensure the flashiest of moves.

Succeeding in the Heroic Assault mode heavily relies on completing each floor’s challenges, and it’s ideal for players to heavily focus on these objectives first to clear the most levels and reap the most rewards. Higher-level floors will undeniably have tougher enemies, and therefore more room for each Knight to test out their synergies.
