  • A new leak suggests that Gotham Knights is being ported to the Nintendo Switch, adding support to previous signs of a Switch version.
  • Fans believe that the rating on a Korean website points toward an official announcement of Gotham Knights on the Switch.
  • While concerns about the Switch's graphical capabilities exist, successful ports like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim give some hope.

A recent leak provides further evidence that last year’s Gotham Knights is being ported to the Nintendo Switch. Developed by Batman: Arkham Origins studio WB Games Montreal, Gotham Knights introduces a new universe where Batman dies in battle, leaving the task of defending Gotham City to his various protégés: Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. While the game featured several aspects of the acclaimed Batman Arkham series alongside a few new tricks, Gotham Knights divided gamers due to its focus on loot systems, questionable UI that resembled free-to-play mobile titles, and somewhat clunky combat.

Gotham Knights was initially released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, but there have been signs that WB Games Montreal is looking to bring last fall’s team-based superhero title to the Nintendo Switch. Earlier this month, the ESRB’s official website updated its Gotham Knights page to mention the Switch as an available platform, and a similar rating for a Switch port has also appeared in Singapore. Some fans took this as a sign that this hypothetical Switch version of Gotham Knights could be announced soon, even though it was completely absent from September’s Nintendo Direct livestream.

Now the currently unconfirmed Gotham Knights Nintendo Switch port has been spotted on a Korean ratings website, as reported by Comicbook.com. This is the second time that a rating website has mentioned the Nintendo Switch, with the first instance being the aforementioned Singapore Gotham Knights leak. Such ratings tend to come before an official announcement, so many fans are taking this as a strong sign that WB Montreal is working on a Switch version of Gotham Knights - even though it hasn’t been officially announced yet. The Korean site also rated Gotham Knights for ages 15 and up due to violence, occasional language, and depictions of alcohol and cigarettes.

Gotham Knights-1

If Gotham Knights is indeed coming to the Switch, one area to watch for would be how the game runs on Nintendo’s nearly six-year-old console. Gotham Knights was criticized for how the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions ran at only 30 FPS, even after WB Montreal canceled the PS4 and Xbox One versions due to technical concerns. Questions about the Switch’s graphical capabilities recently flared up with the release of Mortal Kombat 1, which was met with severe backlash for its Nintendo Switch port and its many graphical issues.

On the other hand, the Nintendo Switch has been home to plenty of polished and well-received ports of titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, so there is a strong chance of Gotham Knights being given similar treatment - especially after the Batman: Arkham trilogy is released on the Switch this October. The latest Korean website rating is another sign that WB Montreal’s spiritual successor could be joining it on Nintendo’s console in the near future.

Gotham Knights is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
