Comic book fans have been eating well with regards to video games over the past decade. Thanks to titles like the Batman: Arkham series, comic games have become almost as massive in their industry as comic book movies. Both Marvel and DC have put together their fair share of blockbuster games throughout the years, and DC will soon reveal more details on Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. After over a year of anticipation, fans will get some relief at the upcoming DC FanDome 2021.

As exciting as the prospect of more news is, Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have found themselves in a different position from when they were revealed. This year's FanDome will be the first time these games get a major showcase in over a year, and in that time numerous other comic games have filled the silence. While DC was at the top of the industry with Batman: Arkham some years ago, the tide has shifted, so Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will have to make a big impression.

It has become a tired phrase to say this past year has been rough on game development, but it's nonetheless true and important to consider. Gotham Knights has been one of the biggest victims, as its initial 2021 release window was delayed to 2022. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League hasn't suffered a similar setback, but its marketing has been practically silent since the initial reveal. Fans recently got new key art for both games, but they'll need a big showing at DC FanDome to grab the attention of those who forgot about the games.

Marvel and DC have been deep-seated rivals in just about every entertainment medium for decades. Their origins are in comics, but they've also competed in films, and when video games began to skyrocket in popularity both companies brought their competition there. In recent years, Marvel has put out monumental titles that have given the company an edge over DC's success with Batman: Arkham and Injustice.

In order for Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad to grab as many comic fans as possible, they're going to have to take attention away from all of the recent big Marvel announcements. As a part of PlayStation's September showcase, the highly anticipated Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was revealed, as well as Marvel's Wolverine. Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad are going to have to make big impressions at DC FanDome to mimic even half of the hype that Spider-Man and Wolverine got, which will be no small feat considering how many fans are still talking about the Marvel titles.

There's no doubt that Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League look impressive, but they still have some big challenges ahead. After over a year of silence, DC FanDome is a great opportunity for both games. For fans of the DC properties, the event will hopefully provide new story or gameplay details, and generally kickstart some more marketing to build up hype. Luckily, it won't be much longer until DC FanDome gives fans some much-needed details on Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
