Gotham Knights features a grief-stricken Gotham and Bat family from the death of Bruce Wayne. Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing must band together to carry on Batman's legacy in the open-world action RPG and finish his final investigation to try and get some insight into why he died.

The first mission in Gotham Knights kicks off the storyline and introduces some standard gameplay features. There are puzzles throughout as players progress, but the first one is found shortly after starting the game involving the notorious Dr. Kirk Langstrom, also known as Man-Bat. One of the four playable characters will be sent to Gotham University to explore Langstrom's office. They arrive just in time to see his body taken away in the ambulance. Getting into his office is relatively easy, and players should follow the guiding diamond to get inside the college.

Langstrom's Secret RoomGotham Knights Investigating Crime Scenes

The game introduces AR Scanning inside his office, a visual scanning device that identifies items, blood, or electrical mechanisms. There will be a blood trail that lights up bright yellow that players can follow to get to Langstrom's Lab. In the lab, scan the room to reveal a hidden mechanism under the floor. The first puzzle of the game starts from that point.

A recurring puzzle is investigating Crime Scenes and answering questions by connecting clues to reveal the solution. The secret mechanism hints that there is a hidden door, and players must look through the things on Langstrom's lab desk for a keypad and door code. There are a few different things that the code could be entered into:

  • A Microwave keypad that's been altered to accept three digits only
  • A Thermostat
  • A handheld device

The actual code could be on a post-it note with a phone number with the area code "127", a calendar with the 20th and 21st circled, or a movie poster with the date 4-11-92. The correct combination is the Microwave and the post-it note code. To select them, players will have to Mark them both and then choose Solve to lock in the answers.

After entering the code, a secret door behind the cabinets is revealed that leads deeper into a hidden room in the lab. If players move to the back of the space past the giant green tubes holding animal specimens, they will locate Langstrom's hard drive sitting on a computer desk.

Players will grab the hard drive and then leave the university. They will get their first taste of combat whenever they go outside, and after defeating all the bad guys, the first mission will be complete. To finish it, use the Batcycle to go to the Belfry, the Gotham Knights' home base.

Gathering Clues

Gotham Knights Night Patrol

Back at the Belfry, the heroes will discuss what was discovered and how they should move forward. Players will also get their first look at unlocking Abilities and Skills for their chosen character, or they can switch to a different character if they want to experiment with the various combat styles. The next step will be to go on Night Patrol in Gotham City to stop crime and get clues about Langstrom's death.

Moving around Gotham can be done differently, including the Batcycle, grappling hook, Heroic Travel, or simply on foot. Eventually, they will come across crime, or they can seek out the locations marked on the map with little upside-down white triangles. After stopping three ongoing crimes and getting enough clues, Alfred will call with the next mission. Langstrom's hard drive requires a biodecryption key found in his body at the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) morgue.

Langstrom's Body

Gotham Knights Langstrom's Body

The police station will test out players' stealth abilities. Since there are so many GCPD officers, the best way to make it to the morgue is to sneak past everyone. This starts with seeking out a back entrance to avoid the front desk. Next, go up the roof to find the rear patrol car entrance. While stealth isn't necessary to get inside, it is recommended. Once inside, players will have to sneak past more GCPD officers to get to the other side of the station. There are cameras inside the station that, if triggered, will notify everyone that there is an intruder in the building.

Players will find Langstrom's body in the morgue. There will be another puzzle, like the one for the hidden room, where players must answer two questions to find the solution. This time there are three medical devices and three samples that could contain the biodecryption key. To get the correct answer, Mark the blood glucometer and the blood sample and then click Solve.

The final challenge will be to escape the police station without being seen. Belfry will cut the power to assist with the silent departure, but there will be officers on guard along the path to the exit.

Gotham Knights is available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
