Gotham Knights’ action-RPG gameplay is fun with a unique open-world approach. That said, Gotham Knights’ narrative leaves much to be desired, having an arguably padded third act with no real closure in its conclusion. The Court of Owls is essentially a grandiose set piece, and the meat of character development for the playable protagonists happens in optional cutscenes. Because Gotham Knights is dedicated to the player’s experience as whichever character they choose, there are also individual endings.

Each ending is composed of a cutscene that features the character who reaches it, so if fans chose Red Hood for their final outing, they will be treated to a cutscene starring him. These cutscenes are unique because of the playable Gotham Knights protagonist depicted, but are structured more-or-less identically. Most of Gotham Knights’ narrative follows this pattern in order to maintain cohesion, though it is still a neat way for Gotham Knights to commend players on their particular character choices.

Nightwing’s Ending Cutscene in Gotham Knights

Originally uploaded by YouTuber Slimpy, Nightwing’s ending cutscene is depicted. These cutscenes are considerably long, but only because a lot of players include the entire final fight with Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. This is understandable, since the way that characters interact with Bruce is important as well, even if it does not have any direct impact on how the final cutscene plays out.

However, dialogue does change between characters, if only marginally enough that the same sentiments are shared in different ways. Interestingly, the way Bruce is struck by Talia is only different in Nightwing’s cutscene, where he is slashed at instead of being impaled for every other character.

Robin’s Ending Cutscene in Gotham Knights

Originally uploaded by YouTuber Veritas Gaming, Robin’s ending cutscene is depicted. Robin’s final cutscene broadcasts a message to Gotham City in an almost identical way to Nightwing, wearing his own Gotham Knights Knighthood suit transmog. This is where each character’s Knighthood transmog debuts, and it is therefore added to players’ inventories for use on any suit they like.

Batgirl’s Ending Cutscene in Gotham Knights

Originally uploaded by YouTuber WoW Quests, Batgirl’s ending cutscene is depicted. Like every other character, Batgirl vows to uproot the Court of Owls from wherever they are hiding and make Gotham City safe. Once the broadcast ends, Batgirl stands atop a gargoyle in an epic final shot, as does each other character whom fans finish Gotham Knights with.

Red Hood’s Ending Cutscene in Gotham Knights

Originally uploaded by YouTuber SHiNWiN, Red Hood’s ending cutscene is depicted. Like in Robin and Batgirl’s endings, Bruce is impaled by Talia. The same events unfold and Bruce commits another act of self-sacrifice in Gotham Knights to save the day, but Red Hood stands vigilant and prepared to root out the rest of Gotham City’s underbelly crime.

The unfortunate part of each character having their own ending cutscene is that fans may not have played most of the game with the character they end it on. For example, a fan may have played as Batgirl all the way up to the final act before swapping to Nightwing. This circumstance would make the ending feel unearned, even if they are all fundamentally identical to one another.

Further, it would have been interesting to see characters have a final cutscene that was more unique to their journeys, such as having them perched in different parts of the city or remarking upon something personal to them. Either way, if fans were only concerned with playing as a single character, this tribute to them is a neat way to celebrate that dedication, even if Gotham Knights’ co-op and familial camaraderie is placed on the backburner as a result.

Gotham Knights is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
