Gamers and James Bond fans will soon get an inside look at the levels of production from the Nintendo 64’s GoldenEye 007. Details about this documentary, focusing on the making of GoldenEye 007, emerge as the release date grows close.

The 1997 game, created by Rare, was based on the 1995 James Bond film, Goldeneye. GoldenEye 007 was a more grounded first-person shooter and was unique from what players had come to expect with other FPS games, such as Sci-Fi fantasy shooters like Doom. It offered an immersive single-player experience and a four-person split-screen multiplayer mode. Usually, video games based on movies do not have the greatest reception with fans of the franchise, however, it has won many awards and GoldenEye 007 is considered one of the greatest video games of all time. It is only fitting that this documentary on the making of the game is produced, and now players have updates on who is releasing the documentary, and when they can watch it.

Now new information has been released that points to streaming giant Cinedigm as the American entertainment company to release the documentary. GoldenEra is set to air on August 23 for both digital and on-demand consumption. What Cinedigm platform GoldenEra will release on is still anyone’s guess, but it is speculated to be on Docurama, seeing as how that is Cinedigm’s streaming service specialized for documentaries and film festival content. The synopsis on the Altitude films website describes GoldenEra as the incredible inside story of the creation and legacy of GoldenEye 007 for its 25th-anniversary celebration. Chief Content Officer Yolanda Macias from Cinedigm came out with an official statement talking about the importance of GoldenEra, highlighting the cultural impact that GoldenEye 007 had on the video game industry at the time of its release:

“Even two decades after its release, ‘GoldenEye’ still has a massive impact on modern-day gaming. There is so much for fans to love about this documentary. Whether you’re a fan of gaming, CONs, the’90s or James Bond , this film encapsulates that era so precisely, and it brings on a nostalgia factor.”

Despite the Daniel Craig saga of James Bond films coming to an end, it is still a great time to be a fan of the franchise. The GoldenEye 007 documentary is premiering this month, rumors of a possible GoldenEye 007 remaster on the way are circulating, and even an entirely new game titled ‘Project 007’ by IO Interactive is in development.

GoldenEye 007 was released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64.
