Godzilla vs. Kong2 has a few new details announced by Warner Bros. After Godzilla vs. Kong turned out to be a massive success upon its release back in 2021, it came as no shock when it was announced that a sequel was coming and revealed to begin filming this year with director Adam Wingard returning.

Godzilla vs. Kong may have had some difficulties prior to its release, such as the toy leaks which spoiled the movie, but it ended up being a big hit on HBO Max. It also did surprisingly well during its limited theatrical release, despite the release occurring during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic (which ended up causing a slight delay in release when the film was screened in Japan). But the film, which starred Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, and Kyle Chandler, ended up an audience pleaser (despite some who felt the human characters took up a bit too much screen time). Now, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official cast list and provided some story details for the sequel.

The Godzilla vs. Kong sequel is filming under the working title Origins, but an official title has not been announced yet. The film is set to feature a deeper look into the mythos of the MonsterVerse and will explore the origins of these Titans, the mysteries of Skull Island, and the history of the MonsterVerse world. Its plot follows up on that of the original Godzilla vs. Kong, where Kong and Godzilla came to an understanding. Now, the two of them will be pitted against a colossal threat hidden within the Earth, which will challenge their existence and the survival of humankind.

Godzilla vs Kong Sequel Legendary

Rebecca Hall will be reprising her role as Dr. Ilene Andrews, a linguist working for Monarch, while Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle will also reprise their roles as the conspiracy theorist Bernie Hayes and the mute Iwi girl Jia, respectively. Newcomers like Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, Alex Ferns, and Rachel House are also set to join the film in undisclosed roles. It is known, however, that Stevens will be playing a lead role in the film.

The future of the MonsterVerse is wide open for now. There is any number of kaiju (also known as Titans in the film's universe) that may be the villain in the sequel. Since the last film brought MechaGodzilla into the mix, it's possible that this film may also bring in a new kaiju from Godzilla's mythos to terrorize the two kings.

Monarch will surely have a role to play in the sequel now that it's confirmed Hall will be portraying her character once again. But it appears there will be certain absences in this film; Millie Bobby Brown does not appear to have signed on to the film in an official capacity, so it's possible we will not be seeing her in the sequel. One thing's for sure, though, the film promises to feature a few battles of titanic proportions.

Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will release in theaters on March 15, 2024.
