Apple's upcoming Godzilla series continues to grow its cast with the addition of two Hollywood heavy-hitters. Along with names like Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, and Joe Tippett, Variety is reporting that the father and son acting duo of Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell will also be joining the show.

The series will focus on the aftermath of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as the world grapples with the new reality that giant monsters are real, and they could emerge at any moment to level entire cities. The show will also focus more on the mysterious organization known as Monarch, and one family's connection to it. No information has been given regarding Kurt or Wyatt Russell's roles, but Los Angels Magazine film columnist Jeff Sneider claimed on Twitter that Wyatt would be playing the younger version of Kurt's character.

If that was true, it would be the second time Wyatt has played a younger version of his father, following an appearance in the 1998 sci-fi movie Soldier. Wyatt also appeared in uncredited roles in two other Kurt Russell movies: Escape From L.A. and Overboard (which also starred his mother, Goldie Hawn). Kurt and Wyatt are also both part of the MCU, having played roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, respectively. However, even with an upcoming Thunderbolts movie, Wyatt has said he has not heard from the studio about his character, John Walker aka US Agent, returning.

Legendary Television is producing the new Godzilla series, and it will be executive produced by co-creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction. So far, there have not been any announcements of cast members who also appeared in any of the Monsterverse movies, including Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Kong. The first two episodes will be directed by WandaVision's Matt Shakman, adding yet another Marvel connection to this project. Shakman will also serve as an executive producer.

Apple TV Plus continues to grow its slate of streaming titles, adding this new series to a roster that now includes shows like Servant, Physical, Central Park, and the recently Emmy-nominated Severance. Godzilla had previously appeared on television, albeit in animated form. His first show premiered back in 1978 and was produced by Hanna Barbera (that whole series can be streamed for free on YouTube). The second show was an animated continuation of the 1998 Godzilla movie that starred Matthew Broderick and featured the legendary kaiju showing up in New York.
