PLEASE NOTE: This article contains MASSIVE Spoilers for God of War Ragnarok and its ENDING.God of War Ragnarok sees the titular, universe-destroying event come to fruition, delivering a satisfying conclusion but leaving enough ambiguity for the franchise to continue beyond the Norse Saga. It doesn't happen quite like anyone would try to predict, as based on the final mural in God of War (2018), but there are certainly winners and losers in the final battle.

The biggest loss actually comes before Ragnarok begins in earnest. Through the perhaps the biggest plot twist in the entirety of the franchise, Brok dies at the hand of Odin, within Sindri's house in all places. Sindri completely falls apart, lashes out in anger at Kratos and Atreus, and solely represents the dwarves during the events of Ragnarok - so Odin doesn't claim any more Dwarven lives. Sindri is the biggest loser of God of War Ragnarok, with the game twisting the blade even after the credits roll.

God of War Ragnarok: Sindri's Armor is Dirty

god of war ragnarok brok's funeral riddle sindri mimir ending soul dead

Players can continue this specific storyline as part of God of War Ragnarok's epilogues, where Brok is given a true funeral after being praised by his Dwarven friends, Kratos, Mimir, and so on. Everyone worries if Sindri will make it, and he does at the last possible minute. This scene gives players the best look at Sindri since Brok's death, following how he hid in his forge, how he tore down the massive wall in Asgard, and how he snuck into the underground of Asgard. In all of this, Sindri's armor gets damaged, he gets covered in soot and dirt, and he doesn't freak out. That's the thing: his armory, face, hair, arms, and more are all completely dirty, yet Sindri doesn't even care.

As many know, Sindri is the opposite of Brok. Brok is loudmouth, uncaring, and crude, but Sindri is neurotic as they come. His various neuroses quickly endear players to Sindri, and one of the most prominent is how much he hates dirt. He makes a big deal of it several times, making him covered in dirt all the more heartbreaking. Losing Brok is heartbreaking, but seeing Sindri completely broken is something else entirely.

Indeeed, per Brok's riddle (which was some really good foreshadowing), Sindri has a "hole" in him now. It grows and grows, beginning with the loss of Brok to perhaps the loss of himself. It's uncertain if the God of War series will see an Atreus spin-off or if they travel to another realm eventually, but hopefully, Sindri's story doesn't end here.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
