Just like its predecessor, God of War Ragnarok has mechanics similar to ones found in RPGs while still being an open world action adventure game. The biggest RPG mechanic is the ability to craft and strengthen armor and weapons. While there are only a handful of resources for upgrading weapons like the Draupnir Spear or the Blades of Chaos, armor requires significantly more resources for upgrading.

At the start of the game players will obtain basic resources like Forged Iron. As they progress through the game and upgrade their armor, they will eventually need to track down better quality resources like Luminous Alloy. Here is how God of War Ragnarok players can find Luminous Alloy.

Where to Find Luminous Alloy

God of War Ragnarok is a long game, even if players just focus exclusively on the main story. Roughly halfway through the game, players will get the Draupnir Spear that allows them to gain access to new areas while also opening up options for backtracking to previously unreachable areas.

Often in these new areas, there will be chests that God of War Ragnarok players can find and loot. While there are many different types of chests in the game, players should be on the lookout for coffins. Coffins are roughly the same size as a Nornir Chest or Legendary Chest, and have a bright red light glowing along the edges. Coffins found after obtaining the Draupnir Spear will often contain powerful resources like Luminous Alloy.

While there is typically no specific area that God of War Ragnarok players should look to find Luminous Alloy, a good place to go is the Lake of Nine in Midgard. Along the frozen lake is a bunch of raider camps that often have coffins that players can loot once they have cleared out the camp. These camps are the objective for the Animal Instinct Favor as well.

Other Ways to Get Luminous Alloy

While Luminous Alloy can mostly be found in coffins, there is one exception. During the Nocturnal Predator Favor, players will encounter a Flame Phantom. Upon beating this optional boss, players will get several resources as a reward. One of those resources is Luminous Alloy.

What is Luminous Alloy Used For?

Like with many resources, Luminous Alloy is used for crafting. Whether it is one of many sets of armor or weapon pommels, God of War Ragnarok players can take Luminous Alloy to Sindri and Brok for any crafting that needs to be done. A good example of this is depicted above. To upgrade the Rond of Expedition from Level 5 to Level 6, players need one Luminous Alloy and 5,000 Hacksilver.

The amount will vary, but God of War Ragnarok players can expect to typically spend anywhere from one to four Luminous Alloy whenever they craft or upgrade armor. Since there are many coffins all over the Realms, it won't be long before players have all the Luminous Alloy they need to improve their level.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
