In spite of being an optional area that has nothing to do with the main story of God of War Ragnarok, the Crater in Vanaheim is packed with many hours of Favors to complete, chests to be opened, and collectibles to be found. Whether it is learning more about what happened there or helping spirits with their unfinished business, players can expect to spend a lot of time in the Crater.

One objective of this area is to find and kill all the dragons that are wreaking havoc on the ecosystem. This walkthrough will show players how to find and kill the Ash Tyrant in The Burning Skies Favor.

How to Start The Burning Skies

In order to start this Favor, God of War Ragnarok players will need to enter the Sinkholes. This area can only be accessed after completing Creatures of Prophecy and the Scent of Survival Favor. Although players can start the Burning Skies, they won't be able to progress it until they complete the Return of the River Favor in the Jungle. Upon completing this Favor, players will get access to previously unreachable places throughout the Crater.

Open the Gate

Once the dam has been dealt with, players can explore the Sinkholes with a boat. In order to reach the lair of the Ash Tyrant, God of War Ragnarok players will need to move north up the river. A gate stands in their way halfway up the river, so players will need to dock at the spot where there is a blue flag. From there, they can go up the stairs and around to where there is a chain that controls the gate. After the gate is down, players can return to their boat and continue moving up the river.

Further up the river, there will be a spot where players can dock their boat at the entrance of a cave. Inside this cave is a door that leads to a narrow hallway. On the other side is the Ash Tyrant. Periodically it will breathe fire down the hallway, so players will want to take cover in the small alcove nearby to avoid taking damage.

How to Get Past the Ash Tyrant

At a glance, it seems like the hallway is just a dead end with a bunch of rubble blocking the exit. In order to get closer to the Ash Tyrant, players will need to find another way around. Near the alcove is a pile of rocks that can be destroyed with the Draupnir Spear. Once three spears have been embedded into the weak points, players can destroy the rock and open a path.

After killing the enemies in their way, players can move through the newly opened area and pull themselves up the ledge to get closer to the Ash Tyrant. To get out of the hallway, players will need to use the Draupnir Spear to destroy a nearby rock. This causes several rocks to fall near the Ash Tyrant and forces it to retreat. This also opens an area that players can use to climb up the wall.

From there, God of War Ragnarok players should look for a spot where they can climb up another wall. This will lead players to the area where they will finally get to fight the Ash Tyrant.

How to Beat the Ash Tyrant

While the Ash Tyrant could be considered a boss, it isn't anywhere near as challenging as Valkyrie Queen Gna or the Berserkers. Most of the Ash Tyrant's attacks can be dodged if players are quick enough. As the Ash Tyrant takes damage, it will periodically fly up onto a pillar where it can't be harmed.

In order to get it down, players will first need to kill all enemies that spawn in the arena. After all the enemies are dead, a weak point will appear on the pillar that the Ash Tyrant is perched on. Once the weak point is destroyed with the Draupnir Spear, the Ash Tyrant will land on the ground and can be damaged again. This process repeats until the Ash Tyrant is killed. Once players kill the Ash Tyrant, the Favor is completed.

God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS4 and PS5.
