Though God of War has changed a lot since its 2005 debut entry, it has always been about family in some way. The older games have Kratos battle against the Greek gods, some of whom are his brothers and father, and the entries in the Norse saga see him build a relationship with his son. He is not the only one who should seek professional help to mend issues with direct family, however.

The two dwarven blacksmiths, Brok and Sindri, are brothers who have a rocky time together. In the 2018 game, they are not even on speaking terms but eventually reach an understanding. Some more issues come between them in God of War Ragnarok, but the details are better off experienced by the player. Below are sibling relationships with even more problems than Brok and Sindri, just to show that they aren't alone in their struggle.

6 Kratos And Deimos

kratos vs deimos in god of war ghost of sparta

Kratos and his brother Deimos are the focus of the PSP spin-off Ghost of Sparta. It takes place after the first God of War game and reveals the siblings' past and the resolution of their relationship. Deimos was kidnapped in their childhood by the gods who thought he was destined to destroy Olympus. During the events of the game, Kratos eventually rescues his brother from the domain of death ruled by Thanatos, the personification of death.

Deimos is initially resentful and unwilling to forgive Kratos but comes around after the latter saves his life yet again. Sadly, Deimos does not last long after this and is killed. At least their relationship ends in a somewhat positive place. In God of War 3, Kratos would have to deal with another brother, Hercules, who he kills in a gut-wrenchingly brutal fashion.

5 Liquid And Solid Snake

Liquid and Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes

These two twins are clones of the legendary soldier, Big Boss. Only one was given the recessive genes while the other received superior abilities. Liquid thought all this time that he was the one who was inferior and hated Solid Snake for it. The two finally come to a head in 1998's Metal Gear Solid where Liquid Snake almost causes a nuclear catastrophe after engaging in a hostile takeover of a nuclear disposal facility and hijacking Metal Gear Rex.

Solid Snake saves the day, however, and it is eventually revealed that the protagonist was the one with the inferior genes all along, lending to the game's themes of defying fate. Liquid would get more characterization over a decade later in 2015's prequel, The Phantom Pain.

4 Kitana And Mileena

Kitana and Mileena Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat is the soap opera of fighting games. One could spend hours reading up on the lore and discovering all the interpersonal relationships of the roster. The animosity between characters doesn't get more intense than the feud between Kitana and Mileena. The former is the daughter of felled Edenian emperor King Jared. After Shao Kahn took over the realm, he made a clone of Kitana using some Tarkatan DNA.

This is why Mileena has the fearsome teeth that she often utilizes in the game's fatalities. Mileena is the malicious sister while Kitana, after discovering the truth about her past, joins the heroes of Earthrealm. During the course of the games, Mileena engages in espionage, conquest, and outright murder. She gets her comeuppance in Mortal Kombat X, though, where she is devoured alive by D'Vorah's bugs.

3 Nathan And Sam Drake

Uncharted 4does away with ancient curses for a more personal tale. Nathan Drake left his old ways behind and works a relatively normal, civilian job. His brother Sam Drake, who Nathan thought to be dead for many years, comes knocking and says he has to find a pirate treasure or else a criminal kingpin will kill him.

This reluctantly brings Nathan back into his old ways, though he ends up fully enjoying the adventure. The conflict between the two stirs once Drake discovers this threat against Sam's life to be a lie. Sam merely wanted to finally discover the treasure they had been looking for since childhood. The lie almost causes Nathan Drake to lose Elena Fischer, the love of his life, but by the end of the game, everything is worked out.

2 Paxton Fettel And Point Man

Fear 3 paxton fettel and Poin tman

F.E.A.R. almost perfectly blended hectic FPS action and spine-tingling horror. The protagonist of the first game, known as Point Man, faces off against Paxton Fettel, who has mysterious powers. The game reveals that the two are actually brothers. In the third and final entry of the series, the two eventually team up for a co-op FPS campaign.

Their mother is none other than Alma, the creepy antagonist of the whole series. The two are at odds during the whole game, despite working together in gameplay. Whoever does better during the course of the campaign determines what ending happens. Appropriately enough, F.E.A.R. 3 ends with Danzig's "Mother" playing over the credits.

1 Denam And Catiua

Catiua and Denam Tactics Ogre Reborn

Even though older tactical RPGs tell their stories with primitive 16-bit graphics, they still manage to squeeze tons of drama and emotion from the story and characters. Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together's two main protagonists are Denam and Catiua, a brother and sister duo. The first is the player character who, depending on the player's choices, either compromises his morals to fight for his land or fight against his former allies in the name of an ethically sound future.

Regardless of the decisions, his sister Catiua always ends up feeling neglected and forgotten by Denam. Even though Denam is fighting for a just cause, he risks losing sight of what's important. If players do not choose wisely, their relationship can end up permanently shattered.
