While God of War Ragnarok didn’t manage to win the title of 2022’s best game at The Game Awards, it has won PlayStation Blog's Game of the Year award. The PlayStation Blog hosts its own set of awards every year that lets users vote on their favorite games. Similar to most end-of-the-year awards, games can win in different categories like graphics, music, and story.

The PlayStation Blog doesn’t recognize just one game in each area and instead gives out platinum, gold, silver, and bronze trophies for the various categories. This is based on the four types of trophies users can earn while playing on a PlayStation console, with the platinum trophy reserved for unlocking all the other trophies of a game. The PlayStation Blog has now revealed the full list of winners for 2022’s award season.

God of War Ragnarok won PlayStation Blog’s Game of the Year award on both PS4 and PS5, with Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, and Stray getting gold, silver, and bronze trophies in that order. The full list is an exact match for both PS4 and PS5 consoles, probably due to all four games being cross-generation releases. God of War Ragnarok won the crown in all the categories it was nominated in, including story, graphics, art direction, and soundtrack.

In addition to the above, Thor from God of War Ragnarok won the award for the best new character of 2022, with Odin from the same game grabbing the silver trophy. Malenia from Elden Ring had to settle for fourth place as the cat from Stray took the gold . Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West often appear in the remaining slots of the different categories, with games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and The Last of Us Part 1 also winning some trophies. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 took home the award for the best ongoing game of 2022, and Gran Turismo 7 won in the sports department.

As voting took place on PlayStation’s official blog, first-party games were probably going to dominate the various categories. Sony released some marquee exclusives this year, and God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 all received high review scores. It may be difficult for 2023 to match 2022 in first-party content, though Sony recently confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to launch in the fall. PlayStation gamers also have some third-party console exclusives to look forward to in 2023 alongside the release of PS VR2 in February.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
