The previously rumored God of War Ragnarok PC version has been officially confirmed during May’s PlayStation State of Play livestream, but it will apparently require a PlayStation Network account. Released back in 2022 as a PS5 exclusive, God of War Ragnarok picks up where the 2018 God of War sequel left off, with Kratos and his young son Atreus struggling to uncover the mystery behind Ragnarok, the prophecy that foretells the end of the world. Along the way, father and son encounter new enemies and make important decisions about their lives going forward.

Given that the previous God of War game was ported to PC in 2022, there has been plenty of speculation about if and when God of War Ragnarok would join its predecessor on outlets like Steam and the Epic Games Store. In late January, God of War Ragnarok was included in a list of rumored PlayStation first-party titles said to be launching on PC alongside Ghost of Tsushima - which did indeed receive a PC port earlier this month. Ahead of May's PlayStation State of Play, insiders claimed that a God of War Ragnarok PC port could be announced at the event, and this has come to pass.

Offering similar gameplay challenge types, GoW: Ragnarok's Valhalla DLC and Muspelheim trials could be further elevated by combining the two.

Towards the beginning of the latest PlayStation State of Play event, the God of War Ragnarok PC port was finally confirmed in a pulse-pounding trailer featuring some of the game’s most memorable scenes and lines. This port is being co-developed by Jetpack Interactive, the same studio that ported the previous God of War game to PC in 2022, and will include a handful of new features not present in the original PS5 version. Included in this list of features are unlocked frame rates, support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1 and Intel Xess 1.3, and Super Ultrawide support. Additionally, last year’s Valhalla DLC will be included in the port, which will launch on September 19.

God of War Ragnarok PC Port Release Date and Features

  • Release Date: September 19, 2024
  • Unlocked Frame Rates
  • NVIDIA DLSS 3.7
  • AMD FSR 3.1
  • Intel Xess 1.3
  • Super Ultrawide Support
  • God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC

These enhancements will certainly make God of War Ragnarok's now-confirmed PC version enticing for those who didn’t get a chance to play through the game on PS5, but some viewers were quick to point out a major catch that could cause the game to be unplayable in several countries. Greg Miller confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will require a PlayStation Network account, something that led to Helldivers 2 and the recent Ghost of Tsushima port being de-listed in regions without PlayStation Network coverage.

Gamers aware of this requirement are already worried that God of War Ragnarok will suffer a similar fate, and it doesn’t feature any online multiplayer mode like Ghost of Tsushima, which would lead to a PS Network requirement. This might sour the news that God of War Ragnarok will finally launch on PC on September 19, but those who aren’t put off can pre-order the game now.
