God of War Ragnarok's eighth chapter, Into The Fire, documents Atreus on his journey through Muspelheim, an intimidating land covered with fire. Hoping to find answers to his questions, he readies the mask Odin gave to him and sets out to discover what it leads to. As if this chapter wasn't dangerous enough, Odin sent Thor to watch over Atreus during his search.

With Thor by his side, the player may assume that God of War Ragnarok's eighth chapter will pose little challenge. Sadly, this isn't the case, as Thor only helps when he feels like it. They're an odd pairing, but Atreus has no option other than to side with him for now.

The Search For The Mask

Getting passed the first blockade requires the player to press Left on the d-pad to equip the mask. This points Atreus in the direction of his goal, so it will need to be used regularly to make it through Muspelheim. Once the mask is facing the correct way, it will glow green, prompting Thor to destroy the barricade in the way.

The next area is home to a few Draugr, but they go down quite easily thanks to Ingrid, Atreus' new sentient sword. To command Ingrid, the player must focus their gaze on an enemy and press Square. Once the enemies have been vanquished, Atreus must use the mask at the end of the area to progress forward.

After arriving in the next area, Thor and Atreus will be forced to fight a Draugr hoard. Thor will focus on taking out the main group, leaving Atreus to deal with the archers on the nearby ledges. Once the battle is over, the player can search the Red Coffin at the far end of the room before pressing on.

Atreus shimmies against a wall in God of War Ragnarok

It's impossible to leave through the hole to the right just yet, so Atreus must use the mask to break through the rubble on the left side of the battle arena. After following the path for a bit and shimmying across a ledge over some lava, another Draugr fight will begin.

Once they have been defeated, Atreus must aim the mask at the open doorway overlooking Muspelheim. After examining the area, Thor will beckon Atreus to join him on the arena's edge, where he escorts the young god down to a lower level. There's a challenging battle coming up, so it would be wise to save the game before proceeding.

Atreus faces an Ogre in God of War Ragnarok

Continuing forward leads to a battle with a Draugr hoard and two Ogres. Though the Ogres appear to pose the biggest threat, Thor can deplete their health bars quite quickly. Letting Thor focus on the Ogres while Atreus deals with the Draugr is the best strategy here. There are plenty of Healthstones scattered across the ground here, so the Ogres shouldn't be able to beat Atreus too easily. After the battle ends, Atreus will set off for Surtr's Shrine.

Examining Surtr's Shrine

With Thor gone, Atreus must conquer the next area alone. Heading under the ruined gateway will lead him to a cliff he must climb to get further. The path upward leads to some Hacksilver, while the way down leads to the next area.

There's a Wisp Obelisk in the cave to the left that must be destroyed before moving on. Ingrid is a great help here, but the Obelisk can also be destroyed by using Runic Arrows. After the next cutscene, Atreus must return to where he fought the Ogres.

A swarm of enemies ambushes the young god upon entering, forcing him to fight them alone. It's easy to get overwhelmed here, especially without Thor's help, but the battle can be easily won by keeping a safe distance from the more challenging foes. Eventually, Thor reappears to wipe out the stragglers.

The next step requires Atreus to use the mask to find the way forward. Aiming it at the debris across from the gate he just came from will prompt Thor to open the next path. At the end of this road lies a piece of the mask. Once it's unearthed from the lava, Atreus will warp back to The Rift, where he informs Odin of his findings.

Back To Asgard

Before going back to Atreus' new room, there's a Legendary Chest containing a Runic Capacity Accessory just to the left of Odin's desk. Atreus will pass by three Hacksilver chests in The Rift before getting back to his room.

If the player wishes, they can take moment to talk to Thrud about their journey before eavesdropping on a conversation between Sif and Thor. Atreus can then customize his equipment in his room before progressing the story. Once he interacts with the bed, a lengthy cutscene will play detailing Kratos' response to Atreus' disappearance. After it ends, the next chapter will begin.
