Near the end of the game's thirtienth chapter, God of War Ragnarok players will unlock the Scent of Survival favor, which requires them to chase after Hulka through the jungles of Vanaheim. Eventually, she'll lead them to the edge of a giant crater, which players will be able to sail down into using the magical boat that Freyr gave to Kratos a little earlier on.

RELATED: God of War Ragnarok: Eastern Barri Woods Nornir Chest Guide (Vanaheim)

There are a lot of things for God of War Ragnarok players to do inside the Vanaheim Crater, with various Favors and no fewer than five Nornir Chests tied to the area. Two of these chests can be found in the Plains area of the crater, which is where players will first find themselves after first sailing down into its rocky depths.

The Plains Nornir Chest #1

To find the first Nornir Chest in The Plains, players should make their way over to the east of the central area. Here, near some raised walls, they'll find the first of the Plains Nornir Chests. In order to open it, they'll have to ring three bells using Kratos' Leviathan Axe, which shouldn't prove to be too taxing for those who know where to look.

The first of the three bells is up on a ledge just to the left of the chest, while the second can be found behind the large rock to the chest's right. Both of them can be hit from the same spot if needed, though players will need to do a bit of legwork in order to find and free the final bell, as it's a little further away than the others and is currently out of commision.

If players follow the wall behind the chest around to the right and then do a bit of climbing, they'll eventually come to an elevated area with one of Brok and Sindri's workshops and a Mystic Gateway. If they follow the path around, they'll arrive at the location of the third bell, which is unable to make any noise at the moment as it is covered in vines. Thankfully, players can rectify this with nought but a few Sigil Arrows and the Blades of Chaos.

Returning to the area with the chest, players should this time follow the wall around to the left until they get a good angle on the third bell. After ringing it, they'll have enough time to run back around to the chest and ring the other two bells, thus breaking the chest's seal and allowing them to get inside. Assuming they haven't already opened up 30 Nornir Chests, they'll receive either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead for their troubles.

The Plains Nornir Chest #2

To find the second Plains Nornir Chest, players will this time have to head over to the west of the central area. They'll also need it to be nighttime, so, if they haven't already, they should track down one of the region's Celestial Altars to advance time. Then, they should prepare themselves for a few challenging fights, as reaching the chest is a lot easier said than done.

If they head to the large open area to the west of the Plains, they should see a Troll banging on a large metal door. They'll need to defeat this Troll, after which, they can open the door and follow the path around. Eventually, players will come to an area with a path to the right that takes them through a crack and toward the Crimson Dread dragon mini-boss and a path to the left that leads to a red coffin/chest. They should take the latter.

After passing a certain point, players will trigger another mini-boss battle which sees them come up against a powerful Traveler called Vali the Oath Guard. After beating him, players should walk over to the cliff near the chest and look down and to their left. They should see a Scorn Pole releasing clouds of poisonous green gas. Throwing the Leviathan Axe at the pole will freeze it, after which, players will need to make their way to the northwest portion of the Plains.

With the Scorn Pole out of commision, players should now be able to open the metal door that leads to the Nornir Chest, though their work is not quite yet done. They'll need to defeat a bunch more enemies, after which, they can get to work destroying the three statues that are keeping the chest locked. The first is in a hollowed out tree to the right of the chest and the second is up on a cliff over to the chest's left. The last one is in an area filled with poisonous gas behind the chest, with players once again needing to freeze a Scorn Pole in order to gain access.

Once all three statues have been destroyed, the seal on the chest will break. What's inside will depend on how many chests players have opened up to this point. If they've opened up thirty or more, they'll receive a random item like Hacksilver or Shattered Runes. If not, those who've already opened up an even number of chests will be treated to an Idunn Apple, while everyone else will get a Horn of Blood Mead.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
