Of the 35 Nornir Chests in God of War Ragnarok, the one in the Crucible Area of Muspelheim is by far the most difficult to open. First, players will need to find the two halves of the Muspelheim Realm Seed just to gain access to the area containing the chest. Next, they'll have to complete six rather challenging trials in order to clear the runes and break the seal keeping the chest shut.

The first part will require God of War Ragnarok players to open up two Legendary Chests in the Bay of Bounty area of Svartalfheim; one just north of Modvitnir's Rig and the other in Alberich Hollow, which is accessed via the Dragon's Beach area on the opposite side of the bay. Sadly, the Crucible trials are nowhere near as straightforward as finding the two halves of the realm seed, with each of the challenges requiring a slightly different strategy.

How to Unlock The Crucible Nornir Chest

Upon heading through The Crucible Mystic Gateway, players will be able to find the Nornir Chest in a large circular pit dead ahead of them. Rather than ringing bells or lighting torches though, getting this one open will require players to complete six tricky trials, with the three runes on the side of the chest being tied to three giant swords through which the Crucible challenges are initiated.

The first sword is in the chamber on the left, and, like the other two, can be used to initiate two different trials. The first is relatively simple, with players simply needing to defeat 16 enemies in three minutes or less. The second, however, requires players to defeat fifteen enemies without taking any damage, which is just as difficult as it sounds. Players should be sure to kill projectile-throwing enemies first, steer clear of enemies after killing them (many of them explode), and dodge constantly; using ranged attacks and their companion's Sonic Arrows to deal most of the damage.

The second sword is in the central chamber and is arguably the easiest of the three to clear. Its first challenge simply requires players to knock 21 enemies into the lava, while its second has them throw glowing orbs into a large realm tear in the center of the area. The latter works a lot like throwing the explosive cores that can be obtained when battling Ancients, only with larger and more difficult enemies dropping higher-value orbs. There are more orbs available than the amount needed though, so players can focus on weaker enemies if they prefer.

The last sword is over in the chamber on the right and features two fairly difficult trials. The first is the easier of the two though, with players needing to kill the elite without allowing too many smaller enemies to spawn in. As for the other, players will need to keep enemies out of the glowing circles. The number of circles increases with each round, so by the third, players will need to be constantly moving throughout the arena, for which the red Blades of Chaos grapple points can come in very handy. Better still, players can perform a powerful strike attack as they land after grappling, allowing them to kill enemies quickly and without taking too much damage.

Once all six trials have been completed, players can return to the central area and open the Nornir Chest. Inside, rather than an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead, players will find a Chaos Flame, which can be used to upgrade the Blades of Chaos. If they like, they'll then be able to complete nine more Crucible trials for a chance to earn some of the best armor in God of War Ragnarok as well as some useful crafting components that can be used to upgrade it.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
