From Odin's Ravens to Kvasir's poetry books, there are plenty of collectibles for players to find in God of War Ragnarok. Perhaps the most engaging of them, however, are the Nornir Chests that can be found scattered throughout the nine realms, with players needing to solve a simple yet at times challenging puzzle in order to crack them open and claim the valuable rewards that lay inside.

There are two Nornir Chests in the Applecore area of Svartalfheim. though players won't be able to reach either of them on the first visit in Chapter 2. Instead, they'll need to wait until after they've unlocked the Drapnir Spear in Chapter 10, after which, they'll be able to use the wooden platform with the chain attached near the Aurvangar Wetlands Mystic Gateway to make their way back over to the mine's exit.

Upon returning to the Applecore mine, players will be greeted by a few tricky enemies including a couple of powerful Revenants. Once they've all been taken care of though, they'll be free to follow the path around to an area with a spear hole on the right and can then use Draupnir to climb their way up to the ledge above. There, they'll find the Demise of Dagestr treasure map, and, a little further along, the first of The Applecore's two Nornir Chests.

To open the chest, God of War Ragnarok players will need to destroy three runic statues at the same time, which means that the Draupnir spear will once again be needed. If they make their way up to the highest point where the path drops back down to the elevator, players will be able to get a clean shot at all three statues, though there's nothing wrong with hitting them all from a little bit closer if players are having trouble with their aim.

Once all three statues have been hit, players should press the Triangle button to ignite the spears, which will destroy the statues and break the seal on the Nornir Chest. Assuming players have opened fewer than 30 chests at this point, they'll find either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead inside. Upon doing so they should double back to the spot where they used the Draupnir spear to climb up and then make their way deeper into the mine, where they'll find yet another spear hole and a path back to an earlier portion of the mine.

The Applecore Nornir Chest #2

After backtracking for a while, players will eventually come to the room where they found Tyr in Chapter 2, at which point, they'll need to defeat a powerful mini-boss. They can then continue back toward the main entrance to the mine until they come to a large room with several waterfalls. Here, they'll find another hole for Draupnir, and using it to leap across the nearby gap will lead to the second Applecore Nornir Chest. It's actually quite hard to miss, as it's right next to a Mystic Gateway and a Lyndwyrm Realm Tear.

Opening this chest will once again require players to use the Draupnir spear to break three statues at the same time, the first of which is directly opposite the Mystic Gateway. To find the second, players should head to the area with the Realm Tear and then use Draupnir, arrows, or the Leviathan Axe to destroy the red bomb to their right. Doing so will clear out some sparkling minerals, which will in turn give players a clean shot at the second of the two runic statues.

To find the last statue, players should follow the path to the right of the chest until they come to a dead end. If they look closely, they'll now see some blue shimmering in the water down beneath them. Aiming Kratos' reticule at this spot should lead to it changing shape, thus indicating the presence of the third and final statue. After pinpointing its exact location, players can throw a spear at it and then destroy all three statues by pressing Triangle.

With all three statues now obliterated, players will be able to return to the Nornir Chest and crack it open. Inside, they'll again find either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead; assuming, that is, that they haven't already opened thirty Nornir Chests. There are no more chests in The Applecore, so assuming players already opened the one from earlier and have done everything that they want to do here, they can now use the nearby Mystic Gateway to leave the area in search of their next adventure.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
