God of War Ragnarok follows Kratos and Atreus on their quest to prevent Ragnarok from wreaking havoc throughout the realms. The journey is wrought with peril, but it becomes easier if the player upgrades Kratos' gear along the way. The items collected throughout the Nine Realms can often be used to enhance the strength of weapons and shields, but some are more difficult to acquire than others.

Blazing Embers are quite easy to locate in God of War Ragnarok, but acquiring some can be extremely challenging, depending on how strong Kratos is. To even gain access to where they can be found, players must unlock The Crucible in Muspelheim.

Unlocking The Crucible

Before Kratos can venture to the flame-riddled land of Muspelheim, he must first locate the two halves required to assemble the Muspelheim Seed. These seed halves tend to spawn in various chests throughout the realms, so players should venture to Svartalfheim if they are struggling to locate them.

To gain access to one of these chests, Kratos will need to have acquired the Draupnir Spear in Chapter 10: Forging Destiny; otherwise, he will need to keep pushing forward through the main story. One seed half is located inside a Legendary Chest atop Modvitnir's Rig, but the second, more well-hidden seed can only be found by climbing the wooden structure on Dragon's Beach and following the path forward and to the left.

Once both seed halves have been acquired, the Mystic Gateway will allow Kratos to travel to The Crucible, but players will still need to put in some work if they hope to acquire Blazing Embers.

Obtaining Blazing Embers

Kratos and Atreus reach The Crucible in God of War Ragnarok

Those expecting to simply explore this new area in Muselheim to find Blazing Embers will be disappointed to learn how they are actually obtained: Kratos needs to complete a series of challenges and will then be rewarded with an amount suited to how he performed. Players should be used to how God of War Ragnarok tends to reward those who complete optional content, but The Crucible challenges will likely be unlike anything they have faced before.

Kratos begins a Muspelheim Challenge in God of War Ragnarok

To obtain Blazing Embers, Kratos must venture to Muspelheim and partake in the trials scattered throughout the area. To begin any of these challenges, he must approach one of the many monuments spread throughout the fiery halls, interact with them, and complete the challenge waiting inside. Completing all of these challenges will eventually unlock a few new ones, but those seeking Blazing Embers should focus primarily on beating the Health Steal challenge.

As its name suggests, the Health Steal challenge causes Kratos to take constant damage but also allows him to regain health if he deals damage to others. It may not be the most difficult challenge available from The Crucible, but it is easy to lose if the player prioritizes defense over offense. Upon completing this trial, a Legendary Chest containing Blazing Embers will rise from beneath the ground, allowing Kratos to open it.

God of War Ragnarok is available to play on PS4 and PS5.
