The fourth chapter of God of War Ragnarok, Groa's Secret, follows Kratos on his journey through Alfheim. Having spent the previous chapter controlling Atreus, getting back into Kratos' shoes is nice, especially due to his more impressive combat abilities.

Groa's Secret kicks off with Kratos entering the Mystic Gateway after a brief chat with Ratatoskr. After this unusual encounter, a prompt appears advising the player to prepare well for the journey to Alfheim. The next part of God of War Ragnarok begins when Kratos enters the Mystic Gateway and emerges from the other side in the Strond.

Groa's Secret Intro

Kratos approaches a Rune Read in God of War Ragnarok

The first thing the player should do after reaching the Strond is to have Kratos inspect the glowing Rune Read at the base of the statue. Like Sindri in the previous chapter, Tyr acts as a sort of guide for the beginning of Groa's Secret, so following him is the only way forward.

Before progressing past the area after the crawl space, the player can find a Nornir Chest containing an Idunn Apple below the edge to the left. Idunn Apples increase Kratos' maximum health, so collecting them can be extremely beneficial.

Kratos destroys a barricade in God of War Ragnarok

Kratos will spot the Tower of Light after he climbs the next few ledges. Moving on, he learns that a barricade is blocking the path. He must throw his Leviathan Axe at the Twilight Stone to the left to get through.

A group of Wretches attacks upon entering the next area, but like in previous chapters, they are easily vanquished. Jumping down to the lower ledge will lead to one of Kvasir's Poems and a Legendary Chest containing Skadi's Edge. Once the area has been fully looted, Kratos and his companions must climb the wall outside the barricade.

The next area introduces Light Elves, powerful foes capable of doing some serious harm. Avoiding their red attacks is key to surviving the battle, so it's vital to keep a decent distance from them at all times.

Unlike previous enemies, they can parry oncoming attacks, so mashing the attack buttons won't be as effective when facing them. Tapping L1 is the only way to halt their blue attacks.

The Tower Of Light

To move forward, Kratos and Tyr need to work to unlock the door to the Temple of Light. Once they are inside, a solid Light Door will prevent them from moving forward. Throwing the Leviathan Axe at the overhanging Twilight Stone, however, will grant access to the next room leading to the Lake of Souls. After searching the Red Coffin and moving to the next area, another group of Light Elves attack.

Tyr creates a path for Kratos and Atreus to follow, granting them access to the higher levels of the temple. Following Tyr will lead to another Light Door. Climbing up to the higher ledge will give Kratos a better angle at the Twilight Stone overhead while also leading him to another one of Kvasir's Poems.

The next room is home to some slightly more powerful Light Elves who can throw projectiles. It's easy to get overwhelmed here, so it's vital to make use of Kratos' shield.

The next Light Door requires Kratos to lower a Twilight Stone by using a crank, facing it toward the Light Door, and throwing the Leviathan Axe at it after letting it move upward one time. Nightmares attack in the next area, but they're relatively easy to deal with. Another one of Kvasir's Poems is inside the room to the left and should be picked up before leaving through the door in the right hallway.

Kratos faces a Light Elf Warrior in God of War Ragnarok

Two Light Elf Warriors attack in the next room. They operate similarly to Light Elves, so defeating them isn't that much harder. Dropping from the rooms to the North will reveal a hidden Red Coffin. Once the materials inside have been taken, Kratos will need to catch up with Tyr.

After defeating a group of Light Elf Mystics, Kratos and Tyr will create a bridge to the next area, in which lies a Nornir Chest containing Horns of Blood Mead next to a pathway that leads to another Red Coffin.

To bypass the next Light Door, Kratos will need to destroy some ancient architecture. Atreus' Sonic Arrows are necessary for destroying parts of a statue, but Kratos must use his axe to remove the statue's wings.

Then, the Blades of Chaos can be used to position the statue so it's leaning to the left. Crossing back over to the adjacent hallway gives the player a good angle at the Twilight Stone.

Upon leaving the Tower of Light, Kratos will be faced with yet another Light Door puzzle, but this one's quite simple. Atreus will need to use a Sonic Arrow to cut the Twilight Stone loose, then all that's left is for Tyr to reposition it.

Descend The Light Well

Upon exiting the elevator, Kratos will need to get through a few more rooms before he finds what he came for. At the end of this area, Atreus reveals a secret doorway in which they learn that Groa lied to Odin about what Ragnarok was.

Once the scene ends, Sindri will show up to offer his services. The player will then need to battle their way down through the Temple of Light until they encounter Alva, an immensely powerful elf who doesn't take kindly to Kratos' intrusion. Before reaching ground level, the player should save the game, as the upcoming fight can be quite challenging.

Kratos fights Alva in God of War Ragnarok

Surviving the battle against Alva requires the player to get familiar with blocking AOE attacks. Repeatedly tapping L1 will cause Kratos to smash his shield into the ground, preventing Alva from attacking while also staggering her for a moment. This is a reliable way to lower her defense.

It's important to keep an eye out for her projectile attacks as they can easily deplete Kratos' health if he gets hit by them. She can also use her blades to deal some heavy damage, but blocking them, then dodging her final attack will leave her vulnerable. She's very quick, but her attack pattern is easy to memorize.

Kratos gets ambushed by Dark Elves in God of War Ragnarok

After the next cutscene, Kratos will set off toward the Mystic Gateway, but he gets ambushed by Dark Elves shortly after leaving the Tower of Light. Tyr clears a path forward after the battle ends, but there are plenty more Dark Elves standing between Kratos and his destination.

The player needs to follow Tyr after each battle to escape the pursuing elves. The party gets separated toward the end of the enemy rush, but Kratos will reunite with them after defeating the final hoard and scaling a nearby wall.

Having escaped the Dark Elves, the group can return to Sindri's House through the Mystic Gateway to begin the next chapter.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
