Highlights

  • A player in God of War Ragnarok activated a glitch that made enemies act like friendly NPCs, creating a strange and ironic moment in the game.
  • The glitch experienced by the player persisted beyond the initial encounter, with enemies not attacking Atreus all the way to a boss fight, adding to the unusual nature of the situation.
  • Others commented on a similar situation at that exact spot, meaning the glitch might be tied to the area or the enemies found there and not specifically to Atreus.

A confused God of War Ragnarok player accidentally activated a glitch in the game that made each enemy they ran in to act like a friendly NPC. What makes this God of War Ragnarok bug even weirder is the ironic line said by Atreus right before the glitch started.

For fans of the series, the moment that players were able to control Atreus in God of War Ragnarok was one of the most surprising moments in the franchise. Atreus became the first character that players could control outside of Kratos in God of War Ragnarok, bringing a fresh play style to the series. Atreus is Kratos' son, and his primary weapons are his knife and bow. Atreus is also known as Loki, and players can use his magic powers that allow him to cast spells while attacking his foes.

On the God of War subreddit, one user named santathe1 posted a clip of Atreus running into a glitch in God of War Ragnarok that almost seems like a spell that he would have cast. The clip starts with normal footage of Atreus shooting arrows at a couple monsters in Asgard. He finishes one of the monsters off, but when he turns to the second one, he notices that it’s not attacking. Another monster walks up to him, and the two creatures just stand there and stare. Confused, Atreus climbs up a nearby ledge and approaches a treasure chest though before he can open it, another beast jumps in the way. Atreus readies his bow but then stops when he realizes that this enemy is not attacking either. He turns around to find himself surrounded by bad guys who won’t attack. The clip ends with Atreus killing all the friendly beasts in the area and grabbing the hack silver inside the chest.

According to santathe1, this glitch didn’t end with this clip. The enemies stopped attacking Atreus all the way to the Heimdall fight which happens at the top of the mountain. What makes this clip extra ironic is that the glitch started right after Atreus uttered the line, “Hey, Odin! I thought you said I was welcome in Asgard!” It’s as if the monsters heard him say that and then acted accordingly. Fans who want to see the glitch in action can fast-forward about a minute into the clip.

In the comments, a Reddit user by the name of CiaoBuddy mentioned that the same God of War Ragnarok bug happened to them in the same exact spot. This could mean that the glitch might be tied to the area or the enemies found there and not specifically to Atreus.

God of War Ragnarok is available on PS4 and PS5.
