A fan of the God of War series noticed that the spear weapon Kratos receives in God of War Ragnarok is very similar to a weapon from God of War: Ghost of Sparta. God of War is the long-running franchise from Sony Santa Monica for the PlayStation brand.

Initially, God of War was a trilogy of games that started off on the PlayStation 2. The series would also receive two prequel titles named God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Both titles would launch exclusively on the PSP, the first handheld console by PlayStation. The series has since grown to be a long-running series and the latest entry, God of War Ragnarok, has made several references to all the previous God of War games.

Reddit user DocRobinly decided to revisit God of War: Ghost of Sparta and noticed that one of the weapons looked identical to the final weapon Kratos receives in God of War Ragnarok. In a video uploaded online, Kratos can be seen wielding a throwable spear with red energy around it. The weapon is very similar to the spear received in God of War Ragnarok, just without the wind abilities.

Other Reddit users discussed the callbacks made in God of War Ragnarok to reference the spear specifically. One user pointed out the scene where Kratos receives the Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarok and how Brok is initially shocked by how skilled Kratos was at wielding the weapon. Kratos then tells Brok that, as a Spartan, the spear is one of the first weapons they master. According to another Reddit user, the director had actually used that weapon as influence for the spear used in God of War Ragnarok.

Moments like this are exactly why fans consider God of War Ragnarok the magnum opus for the God of War franchise. The game has so many references to the previous games, never neglecting or abandoning any of the prior story events, and even mentions other appearances Kratos has made in PlayStation titles. It also appears that the expanded lore of the series will continue to built on. Amazon recently confirmed rumors that a God of War TV series is in development. With God of War Ragnarok being the fastest selling entry in the series it seems like a perfect time for the series to get a TV series adaptation to add more to the lore of the franchise.

God of War Ragnarok is out now for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
