  • According to gaming news leaker The Snitch, Santa Monica Studios is working on DLC for God of War Ragnarok.
  • The director of God of War Ragnarok previously stated that there would be no DLC for the game, but this new claim suggests otherwise.
  • If the rumor is true, the DLC could serve as a bridge between God of War Ragnarok and the next mainline game in the series.

A reliable source claims that Santa Monica Studios is developing DLC for God of War Ragnarok. Last year’s epic action game continued the story of Kratos and Atreus as they journeyed across the Nine Realms of Nordic mythology and worked to uncover the truth behind an ancient prophecy that foretold the end of the world. God of War Ragnarok was met with widespread critical acclaim when it launched on PlayStation consoles in November, and was nominated for several Game of the Year awards.

It wouldn’t be long before the topic of DLC arose amid God of War Ragnarok’s fanbase. However, God of War Ragnarok director Eric Williams seemingly shot down the possibility of DLC shortly after the game’s launch, saying that he and his team at Santa Monica Studios put everything they had into the base God of War Ragnarok. The equally successful 2018 God of War reboot that preceded Ragnarok didn’t get any DLC either, though the developers did add smaller quality-of-life updates through post-launch patches.

With this in mind and Santa Monica Studios now reportedly working on a new game, it would be safe to assume that God of War Ragnarok won’t be getting any substantial DLC. However, a new claim from noted gaming news leaker The Snitch suggests that Ragnarok might get new content after all. In a brief video clip shared on the Resetera forums, Snitch claims that Santa Monica Studios is working on a new DLC project that is already 60% through development. He isn’t sure if this will be supplementary DLC or a fully standalone expansion, and he notes that it likely won’t be released anytime this year.

The Snitch claims that his source is the same person who leaked Rise of Ronin before it was officially unveiled by Team Ninja last September. Commenters have already begun to speculate about what this supposed God of War Ragnarok DLC will be about.

If The Snitch is to be believed, this rumored God of War Ragnarok DLC is mostly finished and could launch sometime next year. Santa Monica Studios is already hiring new staff for a mystery project that may or may not be the next mainline God of War game, so a Ragnarok DLC could serve as a connective tissue between Kratos’s last adventure and his next. Of course, this is all just speculation at this point, though if this mystery DLC is as far along as The Snitch claims then it might not be long before Sony announces it in full.

God of War Ragnarok is available on PS4 and PS5.
