Kratos' arsenal is constantly expanding in the God of War franchise. Whether it is taking weapons from other gods and enemies, or having them built by Brok and Sinidr, Kratos always finds a use for a tool. In God of War: Ragnarok, one of the latest and greatest parts of Kratos' inventory is that of Relics.

Relics can be used by holding L1 + Circle and allowing Kratos to activate a buff to his abilities, or to create something powerful on the battlefield to further assist his fight against the dangers of the nine realms. The best Relics in God of War: Ragnarok is all worthy of their uses, as not all Relics in God of War: Ragnarok can be used effectively.

8 Mystical Heirloom

Players that have found the Mystical Heirloom may be wondering what it does, and why it holds in their relic inventory. The Mystical Heirloom in God of War: Ragnarok cannot be upgraded, but it can be used to great effect, and add further adventures to Kratos and Atreus.

The Mystical Heirloom description states, “It seems important, but doesn’t seem to have any practical application in combat,” can be used to awaken the frozen trolls that can be found across the 9 realms in God of War: Ragnarok for intense and secret boss fights.

7 Hilt Of Forsbrandr

Sometimes, Kratos can be overwhelmed by the onslaught of enemies. Plenty of creatures and monsters want to kill Kratos and Atreus, and the Hilt of Forsbrandr will make it even harder for them to do so. This relic can push enemies back with force and grant Kratos an aura of protection. The cooldown is great as it’s only 112 seconds.

A sword forged to bring justice, protecting those with a righteous cause.” This is the description of this relic, and truer words have never been spoken, as Kratos’ cause is righteous, albeit a tad too violent. However, it’s one of the best relics in God of War: Ragnarok.

6 Motsognir’s Call

god of war ragnarok relic motsognir's call

With Motsognir’s Call, Kratos will be able to create a shockwave that deals high Stun to surrounding enemies. The description for this item reads “Sindri’s tuning fork. Somehow it survived Ragnarok…” The cooldown for this God of War: Ragnarok relic is 187 seconds, and the stun is further increased for enemies by upgrading it.

Stun is a vital component of God of War: Ragnarok. By stunning enemies, Kratos will have an opportunity to be better, and finish the fight quicker. A filled stun bar means that Kratos can hold R3 for a unique finisher animation, or if the enemy is not weak enough, he can do a stunning grab.

5 Hilt Of Hrotti

Runic attacks are amazing in God of War: Ragnarok. Each weapon has unique runic attacks, both light and heavy. They can change the way a fight goes based on what runic attacks players use in God of War: Ragnarok. With the Hilt of Hrotti, the cooldown that comes with using a runic attack is greatly reduced.

This relic applies a mark to enemies, and attacking a marked enemy will reduce the Runic Cooldowns of the equipped weapon. If said enemy is killed, Kratos is granted a Blessing of Runic. The description reads “Said to be kept in Fafnir’s Storeroom. It must have been looted before our visit.

4 Hilt Of Gram

Spartan Rage is one of the newest additions to the God of War franchise. It allows Kratos to use his pent-up rage and aggression and deal devastating blows with his fists to those that seek to harm him and his son, Atreus. However, God of War: Ragnarok adapts Spartan Rage, and players can use it to heal, or deal devastating damage with a weapon.

Due to these changes, the Hilt of Gram is greatly useful when in need of Spartan Rage. Upon activation, Kratos will receive a burst of Rage, and those nearby will receive Stun. The description reads “Once referred to as 'The Dragon’s Bane', Gram isn’t what it once was, but will fell many more foes before its days are done.

3 Hilt Of Hofud

The Hilt of Hofud is greatly useful in God of War: Ragnarok. This relic creates a Realm Shift, which means Kratos can slow down time yet go at his normal speed. It’s a way of slowing time for efficient and quick combat, a greatly useful skill, and a cooldown of 243 seconds.

The Hilt of Hofud is at its best when players need to deal quick damage or are just looking for a good opening on a fast enemy. Slowing time is always useful in video games. The description reads “The sword once wielded by the Watchdog of the Aesir, Heimdall. It has separated many heads from their bodies.

2 Talisman Of Meign

god of war ragnarok talisman of meign

One of the first relics that players will find in God of War: Ragnarok is the Talisman of Meign. This relic grants players a bonus to Melee damage, but only for a short duration. With a cooldown of 112 seconds, some intense boss fights may call for this to be used over and over again, and to great effect. Kratos is a powerhouse, and giving him the ability to deal more damage can never go wrong.

The item’s description reads “A talisman so precious to the previous owner, they held it close until their last moment. Would they have survived if they had dropped it?” Hopefully, Kratos doesn’t become too attached, although if he does, it’s for good reason, as the Talisman of Meign is fairly decent.

1 Huldra Project #9

Everyone seems to love Mimir, the Smartest Man Alive. He has a great many uses and doesn’t exactly take up much room considering he is a decapitated head thanks to the Leviathan Axe. Mimir’s knowledge and wit are as hilarious as he is wise, but Kratos has found a way to further utilize Mimir.

Brok and Sindri carefully measured and constructed a harness to weaponize the Smartest Man Alive.” Kratos will take Mimir’s head, and use his eyes to fire a Bifrost blast at his enemies. It’s fun, effective, and a great reason to love God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War: Ragnarok is currently available on PS4 and PS5.
