With Minecraft being the juggernaut that it is, it is no surprise that Mojang has been able to secure several high profile crossovers. Recent team-ups include Batman, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and SpongeBob SquarePants, but video games have also been a consistent point of inspiration for skins and texture packs. From Mass Effect and Fallout to LittleBigPlanet and Final Fantasy 15, gamers can celebrate their favorite franchises within Minecraft - and God of War should be next on the list.

Currently, only Kratos has a skin within Minecraft, and it is based on his Greek design as opposed to his recent Norse appearance. Considering how many iconic characters they are in the most recent games, the God of War skin count could be significant. Beyond that, it is easy to imagine a texture pack giving Minecraft’s biomes new designs that closely resemble Santa Monica's versions of the Nine Realms.

Why a God of War Minecraft Pack Makes Sense

As previously mentioned, cosmetics would be a big draw of a God of War DLC, and there would be numerous options available to Mojang. Obviously, a bearded Kratos and his son Atreus would be at the top of the list, with the latter getting skins based on his child and teenage designs. Faye and Angrboda, their respective love interests, could serve as skins. The tiny Brok and Sindri would make for entertaining cosmetics, as would the tall Tyr. Freya and Freyr's brother and sister dynamic could be accessible, while Thor, Thrud, and Sif could represent the Odinson family. Heimdall, Baldur, and Odin himself could feature in the pack as well. Surtr would be neat, and Ratatoskr could be a particularly funny option to round out the lineup.

Like what is seen in the Minecraft pack based on the Fallout series, some of God of War’s enemies represented through wearable skins. The many trolls fought in the 2018 game could be an option for a big skin, while the Valkyrie Queens Gna and Sigrun could be additional options. Draugr, elves, and various other enemies could ensure players have many options available to them once the pack has been purchased.

However, a texture pack for God of War Ragnarok could be just as good as the skins. Outside of makeovers for Minecraft’s mobs, a few tools could be altered to match the weapons wielded by the characters. Axes could be given extra details so the look of Kratos’ Leviathan axe is captured, swords could become Ingrid, and the bows could be remodeled to take on the look of Atreus’ signature weapon. Making tridents into the Draupnir spear could be another fun adjustment.

However, capturing the Nine Realms through Biomes would be the biggest opportunity of all. Snowy areas with Spruce trees could have some work done to look like Midgard, while some Hafgufas could be tossed into the desert to make it feel like Alfheim. Its Pyramids and Temples could also get some elven architecture. Jungles could have some details making them look more like Vanaheim, too. From mines that resemble the designs from Svartalfheim to the Nether being a perfect stand-in for some Muspelheim structures, the possibilities are plentiful. The trials from Muspelheim could also be worked into a special mode for the pack, with players fighting waves of Zombies retextured as Draugr.

If Mojang wanted to get even more ambitious with a God of War x Minecraft crossover, including content from the Greek games would be an option. All the gods Kratos killed would be possible to include, and there could be more tool redesigns based on the many weapons Kratos used to wield. Still, the newer Norse games should be the main focus, as they provide a lot of opportunities for textures and character skins.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
