God of War fans have had plenty of time to craft theories about where the story will go after the events of the 2018 release. With the announcement of the next God of War game, fans have been speculating on what could happen with Kratos after the last scene of the 2018 God of War.

The ending events of God of War brought more questions than they answered, leaving fans on a cliffhanger before the last scene ever happened. In the ending scene, Kratos comes face to face with Thor, who is only recognized by the thunder and his iconic hammer, Mjolnir. With all the questions at the end of God of War, mixed with the confrontation with Thor, fans have been crafting theories about what will happen next.

Reddit user Nebulant01 posted their theory to Reddit as a meme that sparked a conversation. Nebulant01’s theory is that Kratos will die and since the Valkyries owe him for liberating them, they will take him to Asgard instead of Valhalla, allowing him to confront Odin.

This theory is crafted with the knowledge of what was shown on the wall in Jotunheim that depicts the events of the God of War storyline, ending what has been speculated to be Kratos’ death. If Kratos dies, that could allow him to cash in his favor from the Valkyries to bring Kratos to Odin.

This would be an interesting plot to explore, having Thor kill Kratos, only to have Kratos wind up in front of Odin. Where the God of War story would go from here is hard to tell. While this theory sounds like an exciting direction for the next God of War game, there are a lot of things that would make this difficult to do.

With the emphasis on Atreus in the story and the mechanics of God of War, it's hard to imagine them being separated for long enough to affect gameplay. Kratos’ death would separate him from Atreus, leading to a change in the gameplay mechanics. This is possible and certainly something that the developers can do.

Aside from gameplay, the story would have to be further fleshed out and could lead to the ending of God of War’s sequel being a confrontation with Odin. Depending on when Kratos dies, this could mean an entire game of just navigating to get to Odin. These things are in the realm of possibility, however, there are a lot of theories about what is next for Kratos and Atreus. God of War fans will just have to wait and see what Santa Monica Studio brings with the upcoming God of War.
