Ghostwire: Tokyo follows open-world tradition by including loads of side quests for players to complete and collectibles to find. Fairly early in the game, players will run inevitably into Boss Tanuki, who will inform the player that he has been separated from his 25 Tanuki comrades.

Players of Ghostwire: Tokyo will of course take up the task, and this will begin the "Tanuki Quest" side quest line. Players will be on the hunt for Tanuki who have disguised themselves as inanimate objects so that they may remain hidden from the Visitor scourge that has rocked Tokyo. These Tanuki will be hiding in all sorts of nooks and crannies around the game's world, but fortunately their disguises only get them so far, as they will still have their fluffy tail visible from whatever object they are mimicking.

Finding Tanuki

The player has multiple avenues available for locating these tricky critters. The player has access to Spectral Vision, which allows them to see highlighted outlines of all interactive objects in their immediate vicinity. This is no different for the Tanuki, who will be highlighted as whatever object they are — but with their tail visible as well.

Players can also read the thoughts of the dogs and cats that roam the streets and alleys. They will provide clues to the player as to the whereabouts of their furry cousins if one is close enough.

Additionally, some shrines will have an Offering Box which will allow the player to donate a sum of money to in exchange for information. If applicable, the player is able to request the location of Tanuki, but the player should note that the Offering Box will only reveal the location within its respective border.

Some shrines will have more than one Tanuki, and some will have none at all. Fortunately, this shrine only has one Tanuki, and it is fairly simple to find. Clear out the shrine first, and then players can make their way south. The player is going to want to travel onto the rooftops, as the Tanuki is located on top of a generator on one of the buildings fairly immediately south of the shrine map marker. There is a Tengu flying overhead for the player to lasso for quick roof access.

Once the player has made it to the rooftops, they should note a generator with a pretty obvious large porcelain statue on it. This statue of course has a tail, thus indicating it is the Tanuki. The player can interact with it. Once they do so, it will give them some dialogue related to the quest, and then provide the player with 100 XP and an emote called "Ground Sit 1."
