Much like any other modern open-world game, Ghostwire: Tokyo has plenty of side quests and collectibles around the map to distract players from the main mission. Early in the game, Akito will encounter Tanuki Boss, who will give them a collection-oriented side mission. The quest involves tracking down all 25 Tanuki that got separated from the boss when the Visitors first started appearing.

In Ghostwire: Tokyo, the Tanuki Boss will inform players that, due to the Visitor scourge, the Tanuki have gone into hiding to avoid being discovered. Tanuki have the ability to disguise themselves as just about any inanimate object in the world, but players need not fret as they have a dead giveaway to destroy the illusion: their fluffy tail.

How to Find Tanuki in Ghostwire: Tokyo

The Kuo Shrine Tanuki Location in Ghostwire: Tokyo

Players have a myriad of options when it comes to locating Tanuki. First, they are able to use the Spectral Vision ability, which highlights any interactive objects in the nearby vicinity. This will be the case with Tanuki too, which will be highlighted as whatever object they are disguised as, though the outline will include the tail for easy identification.

Akito is also able to read the thoughts of cats and dogs that wander the streets and alleys of Tokyo. By reading their thoughts, the player will be able to get some clues as to the whereabouts of the furry fiends if there happens to be one nearby.

Alternatively, players are also able to directly pin the Tanuki location on the map by offering the maximum donation to the respective Offering Box. The player should keep in mind though that it will only apply for Tanuki within its respective border. For the Kuo Shrine, there are two Tanuki.

Kuo Shrine First Tanuki Location

The first Tanuki can be found by going directly south from the shrine map marker. The player should travel all the way to the edge of the southern border. The player should eventually stumble upon Shibuara Park. This is where the Tanuki will be located, and it will be disguised as a playground panda ride. Once the player interacts with it, it will reveal the Tanuki, who will provide the player with 100 XP and an emote called "My Right Hand Hungers."

Kuo Shrine Second Tanuki Location

The second Tanuki is a tad trickier to find, as accessing the area in which it is hiding will require players to complete a fair bit of the main story. They'll want to make sure that they are through to chapter 4 before they start looking for this Tanuki. It will be located east and slightly south from the shrine map marker. There is an overpass, and if the player goes beneath it, they should stumble upon a Jizo Statue under the overpass slightly adjacent to the Luster-Loving Nekomata.

Just south of the Wind Jizo Statue, there will be a side quest called "A Full House." On the very top of the building that this quest is in front of is where the Tanuki can be found. Once players have cleared the Visitors, they should be able to find the Tanuki easily, as it is a glowing sign with a tail. Once the player interacts with it, it will provide them with 100 XP just like the last one, as well as the "Umbrella" emote.
