Table of contents

As players approach the end of Ghostwire: Tokyo's fourth chapter, they'll reach a point where further progression will lead to certain side content becoming unavailable. It's not a traditional point of no return, as players can still fast travel back to Shibuya if they so wish. However, three of the game's side missions, "After the End" parts one to three, will no longer be available if they get on Rinko's newly-repaired bike.

For those who have been completing side missions as and when they become available, this shouldn't be too much of an issue, but anyone who'd planned on mopping up the game's many side quests and collectibles after completing the main story may want to think twice, as progressing before completing these missions could prevent them from unlocking certain trophies/achievements and even seeing Ghostwire: Tokyo's true ending on the first time of asking.

How to Complete After the End I

The "After the End I" side mission becomes available early on in Chapter 4 of Ghostwire: Tokyo, though players will first need to cleanse the Torii gate at Toyoi Shrine before they can access the area in which it begins. After doing so, they'll be able to start the quest from a payphone on the west side of Shibuya, which is marked on the map by a green circular icon much like the game's other side missions.

When Akito answers the phone, Rinko will ask him and KK to check out a nearby location. The place in question is a park to the south of the payphone they're currently at, right near the quest marker for the "Bloodthirsty Blossoms" side mission. The location is also marked by a green circle on the map and is easy to spot from distance thanks to the big red tree in the center of the park.

Upon entering the park, Akito and KK will see Erika's psychic residue petting a stray kitten beneath the tree. She'll soon disappear though, at which point players will need to use KK's Spectral Vision ability (press Square) and then follow the psychic trail to the southeast. They'll likely run into a few groups of Visitors as they trail her, but should be able to sneak by if they're careful. If not, they'll need to pick up Erika's trail again after purging the Visitors by again using Spectral Vision.

Eventually, after a long walk that involves a stop at a convenience store, players will find themselves outside the Shibuya 429 landmark, where Erika's psychic residue sits down on a nearby wall. Before players can investigate, however, they'll first need to take out a large group of Visitors. There's also a rather nasty Shiromuku that has a habit of spawning not too far from here. Players don't have to defeat it as part of the side mission, though it can be difficult to defeat the other Visitors without alerting the Shiromuku to Akito's presence.

Once all of the Visitors have been taken care of, players can investigate the spot where Erika's psychic residue was sitting to find one of Ed's tape recorders. After they pick it up, KK will suggest reporting back to Rinko, after which, players will need to head to the nearby phonebox marked on their map (again, with a green circle). It should start ringing as they approach, and players can answer using the L2 button to end the side mission.

How to Complete After the End II

Upon completing "After the End I," players will be able to start the next part of the side mission by answering the marked payphone to the east of Shibuya 429. This time, Rinko will ask KK and Akito to check out the roof of Shibuya 429. To get up there, players will need to make their way round to the back of the building and then look for a Tengu high above them, onto which they can grapple (aim at the Tengu and then press X).

After jumping and gliding across a few rooftops, players will find themselves in the marked location. The first thing they'll notice is a stage with a bunch of Student of Misery Visitors standing on it. Players should take them all out, being sure to pick up the Bubble Era Folding Fan relic once they've done so. From there, they'll need to climb up to the next section of the rooftop via the white awnings and then look for Erika standing on the edge of the rooftop.

Initially, it looks as though she jumps off, but a quick scan with KK's Spectral Vision will reveal that she actually floated across to the rooftop of the hospital on the other side of the street. Players won't be able to glide there as it's just a little too far, so, after making a note of the direction in which Erika is heading, they should jump down to ground level and make their way up to one of the nearby rooftops via a fire escape to the southwest of the quest marker.

After jumping and gliding from rooftop to rooftop, players will eventually find themselves on the roof of the hospital, where another one of Ed's recorders can be found. Before they can pick it up though, they'll first need to take care of a group of Visitors who were attracted by Erika's energy. After doing so, players will need to jump back down to ground level and the payphone marked on their map to report back to Rinko and complete the side mission.

How to Complete After the End III

The final part of "After the End" can only be started after players have completed the previous one and found the Fragrant Underworld Oil needed for the Chapter 4 mission, "The Black Tower." The payphone needed to initiate it is right next to Toyoi Shrine, which is in west Shibuya, so players can fast travel there to speed things up a little. After another short phone conversation with Rinko, KK will tell Akito that he wants to check out a nearby location. It's about 15 seconds on foot to the southeast of the payphone, so should be pretty easy to find.

Upon their arrival, players will find Erika's psychic residue staring down at a once busy road below, after which, it will head off to the south on foot and players will need to follow it once again. Eventually, it heads inside a small brick building, inside of which is a strange watery world with an assortment of electronic equipment. Players should pick up the cat keychain from the computer desk and then take care of the Visitors that suddenly spawn in.

With Erika's keychain now safely in their possession, players should head back to the payphone near Toyoi Shrine to report back to Rinko one last time. She'll explain that the keychain was a gift and is capable of responding to Ether, after which, Erika's spirit will suddenly be on the line. The mother and daughter reconnect, with the latter assuring Rinko that she shouldn't blame herself for what happened. After that, the side mission will finally come to an end.

Rewards for Completing After the End

Surprisingly, there isn't a trophy/achievement associated with completing "After the End," though there are some pretty decent rewards, not to mention a healthy dose of background information to help flesh out some of Ghostiwre: Tokyo's key characters. In total, players can expect to earn 9,000 Meika, the Retro 1 and Monochrome 2 Camera Filters, the Taiko Drummer outfit, and around 1,500 Spirits. Some additional Spirits will also spawn near the Toyoi Shrine phonebox after players have turned in part three of the quest.
