The recent Nintendo Direct was an eagerly anticipated event for fans who wanted to get a better look at the many exciting titles in development, but it also contained some surprises like the announcement of a Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective remaster. Some of the news that was supposed to be kept under wraps did leak out ahead of time, and there were recent rumors that the Nintendo DS classic Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was going to make a comeback, but the confirmation was still a surprise to some. However, the reveal was a welcome one.

The Nintendo Switch has provided an excellent platform for not only newer games and much-requested ports for handheld devices, but it also serves as a way for players to experience titles that might have been overlooked or become obsolete on older consoles. Another exciting announcement from February's Nintendo Direct was the news that a slew of Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance titles will be added to Switch Online, following a trend with Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective that lets older games shine alongside newer ones and get the attention they deserve.

Nintendo's recent showcase was jam-packed with lots of fantastic reveals, exciting updates, and unexpected announcements. With a more definite picture of what the next year holds for the Switch, the immediate future is looking very bright indeed for the popular console. With announcements like Pikmin 4's release date, a better look at the upcoming Bayonetta Origins: Cereza, and a new game from Don't Nod called Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, the February Nintendo Direct spoiled fans with great news and even better games. One of the more interesting pieces of news, though, was probably the resurrection of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was a popular game from Capcom that released on the Nintendo DS back in 2011, and although it's beloved by its fans, it remained a fairly niche title with a limited playerbase. That looks all set to change now that an HD remaster is on the way, not only for the Switch but also for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This will broaden the potential audience significantly and will also help smooth the game's rougher edges to create an optimal experience that can be enjoyed by both new and returning gamers.

Why This Is Such Good News For Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was developed by the creator of the fan-favorite Ace Attorney series, and parallels are often drawn between the two IPs as a result. In Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, players are tasked with finding out who the recently deceased protagonist Sissel was when he was alive, and most importantly, who might have wanted him dead. The stylish title utilized many elements of a classic mystery game but infused them with a supernatural twist as players could use their ghostly powers like Sissel's ability to possess corpses or animate objects to save those around him and uncover secrets.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was a best-selling game in Japan at the time of its release, and it received strong reviews across the board with praise for its narrative, unique design, and original concept. The puzzles were fun, the gameplay was entertaining, and the world felt unique. Although Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was undoubtedly a critical and commercial success, it is still underrated. Bringing it to the Switch with a timely remaster is the perfect solution to give Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective the recognition it deserves and the new lease of life it needs.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective will release for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One in summer 2023.
