Ghost of Tsushima offers players a gigantic open world filled with mysteries, mythic tales, and majestic landscapes. Every inch of the game world is downright gorgeous, encouraging exploration at every turn.

However, with a size so massive, lifting the fog of war from the entire map simply by walking is extremely time-consuming and not something the average player will find themselves willing to do, no matter how beautiful the landscape. How to Lift Fog of War in Ghost of Tsushima

There are two ways to lift the fog of war:

  • Exploration: Players can reveal the map by simply walking on Tsushima Island. This method is limited in value, as only the area in the immediate vicinity of Jin is revealed on the map. However, players can increase this range by upgrading the Traveler’s Attire, the first armor Jin unlocks in the game.
  • Clearing Out Mongol Camps: Clearing out individual Mongol Camps that can be found spread out across the map will lift the fog of war from the immediate area surrounding the camps.

5_24 areas liberated in izuhara in ghost of tsushima

One tidbit of information Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t tell players is that they can lift the fog of war from an entire section of the island by clearing all the Mongol Camps and liberating the region.

If players zoom out of the map and hover over a region, they’ll be able to see a pop-up to the left that says N/24 Liberated. This pop-up shows how many Mongol Camps and other contested territories are in that area. When players completely liberate a region by removing all traces of the Mongol invasion, the entire map (for that region) will be revealed, and the fog will be lifted. Undiscovered points of interest like Fox Dens, Bamboo Sticks, Hot Springs, and others will be marked with a white question mark, showing players which areas they haven’t visited. To reveal the complete map, players will have to liberate the entire Tsushima Island by driving out the Mongols from every corner.

If the map is revealed, players don’t need to rely on golden birds to lead them to side objectives; the revealed map shows everything.

Ghost of Tsushima’s main story is split into three acts, each spanning one part of the island. Act 1, for example, takes place entirely in the Izuhara region and is only completed after players retake Castle Kaneda from the Mongol invaders. Because of this, during Act 1, players will only be able to uncover the map in the Izuhara region. The next two regions will only unlock after progressing to the next Acts.
