Sucker Punch's highly anticipated PlayStation exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima, appears that it will release ahead of the next-generation console launch after all. Sucker Punch has released a new trailer trailer that focuses on introducing the main storyline of Ghost of Tsushima, but it also confirms the game's tentative release date. Ghost of Tsushima is scheduled to launch on PS4 on June 26.

Ghost of Tsushima's release date has been a matter of some speculation since late 2019. Sony's schedule reportedly had The Last of Us Part 2 coming out before Ghost of Tsushima, but then The Last of Us Part 2 was delayed. Ghost of Tsushima was then believed to be coming in the later half of 2020, if not delayed to become a PS5 title. Sucker Punch proves that the speculation was wrong, though. A June 26 launch puts the game just one month later than The Last of Us 2's release on May 29.

The story trailer does a great job of informing potential Ghost of Tsushima players as to what the game is about. The story is that a Mongolian invasion of Japan has occurred and a samurai isn't just defeated, but is left questioning the values on which they were raised. They take these questions with them in a campaign of revenge.

Ghost of Tsushima has struggled somewhat in conveying its story through previous trailers and reveals. The trailers were undoubtedly beautiful, but focused heavily on context-free cinematic sequences or action scenes. Sometimes a more straightforward story trailer focusing on the main storyline can help a game appeal better.

The trailer does feature several gameplay sequences from Ghost of Tsushima, too. The gameplay shows the protagonist Ghost leaping from rooftops and sneaking behind enemies like a ninja, or facing down an enemy in a duel and riding a horse into battle like a samurai. Players will experience both styles of play in Ghost of Tsushima.

Hopefully, Ghost of Tsushima will still receive a release on PS5, too, or at least update the will improve the game for PS5. Now Sony just has to reveal when its planned PS5 reveal event or presentation will be.

Ghost of Tsushima releases June 26 exclusively on PS4.
