Thursday morning Sucker Punch Productions announced plans for a Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut release. The updated version of Ghost of Tsushima will be released on both PS4 and PS5, upgraded for the next-generation console, and bundled with content including the new Iki Island expansion. Also receiving new content is Ghost of Tsushima's multiplayer Legends mode, including a new way to play and the promise of additional free updates.

Accompanying the announcement trailer for Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is a lengthy blog that goes into further detail about Sucker Punch's plans. Snuck into the end of section for "Other Updates," Sucker Punch briefly talked about its plans for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. While there's a woeful lack of specifics, one key announcement was shared. Sucker Punch plans to introduce a brand new game mode to Legends.

As for when Ghost of Tsushima players can expect more information about this new Legends game mode, Sucker Punch says to expect more information soon. That's not a generic "soon," either, but rather points to the weeks ahead. Sony has no currently announced events coming up, but there are rumors of a July PlayStation State of Play that could be revealed soon. Alternatively, Sucker Punch could simply share more information about the game mode on the PlayStation Blog like it did for the Director's Cut.

Beyond the introduction of a new game mode, Sucker Punch did tease some other information. It also confirmed that additional updates are currently being worked on, of which the game mode is but one. Further, Sucker Punch confirmed that all of these updates will be made available to Ghost of Tsushima players at no additional charge. That includes both versions of the game, the standard version and the Director's Cut, and both platforms, the PS4 and PS5.

It isn't clear how popular Ghost of Tsushima: Legends remains, now that the open-world action game has been available for some time. These types of game modes on console either tend to retain a dedicated core audience or fizzle out. The number of players still invested in Legends will likely determine how many updates it receives through 2022. But Sucker Punch clearly sees some value in a big update to coincide with the release of the Director's Cut.

The Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut upgrade will launch on August 20. No release plans have been announced for the next Legends upgrade, however. The update will hopefully release alongside the Director's Cut, but that's not a certainty. Expect to hear more information about Sucker Punch's plans over the next month and a half.
