One of the most anticipated games of the year, Ghost of Tsushima, is shaping up to be a stellar experience. Not much had been seen of the game before today, besides a few Ghost of Tsushima gameplay demos at E3, but during today's State of Play, Sony unveiled roughly 18 minutes of new gameplay — the longest look at Ghost of Tsushima yet.

Ghost of Tsushima is visually one of the best games on the horizon, as it stands. News of Ghost of Tsushima's delay to July was overshadowed by The Last of Us 2's delay, which also made headlines due to a series of leaks revealing the game's story. Still, Ghost of Tsushima is one of the last major PS4 exclusives — and one of the more exciting ones to boot.

The gameplay demo shows many different aspects ofGhost of Tsushima, from combat to exploration and beyond. So far, combat has been a standout aspect of the game, with tight animations and satisfying slashes making the protagonist, Jin Sakai, look like an authentic Samurai — even able to challenge others in the world. It's an impressive display, on both technical and mechanical levels.

Throughout Ghost of Tsushima's story, players will take down Mongols invading Japan. It's an open-world game, which some didn't expect following the first few gameplay demos. However, previous demos have shown off vast rolling fields and beautiful blossoms, similar to what this demo showed in the exploration sections.

The demo also showed off Jin as the "Ghost," where he uses stealth, misdirection, and more to defeat his foes, versus challenging his enemies in more honorable means. Jin can also be customized, which changes his abilities and playstyle, giving players more control over his look and feel. The game also features an incredible mode that makes the game look like an old Samurai movie, adding wind effects, film grain, and more to make it feel like an authentic Samurai experience.

It's clear that developer Sucker Punch has poured a ton of effort into Ghost of Tsushima, which will hopefully pay off when it finally releases. Up until now, it's remained a relative mystery, though the demo has lifted the veil to some degree. The PlayStation 5 is still slated for holiday 2020, with Ghost of Tsushima being a big part of the PlayStation 4's final send-off.

Ghost of Tsushima will release on June 17 for PS4.
