When beginning Jin Sakai’s journey in Ghost of Tsushima, players will immediately bear witness to the sadistic cunning of the antagonist, Khotun Khan, the Mongol leader who leads his forces to invade the island of Tsushima. It won’t be long into the prologue mission of Ghost of Tsushima where players will cross blades with Khotun Khan, but this rare opportunity to best the villain does not come lightly.

Best Games To Play If You Love Ghost Of Tsushima

After finishing Ghost of Tsushima, players craving a similar experience can try out a few of these games that share comparable attributes.

Many players who have yet to fight Khotun, or those who have already fallen to his fighting style, might be asking themselves is it possible to beat Khotun Khan in Ghost of Tsushima’s opening chapter? After all, the game would end rather quickly if they could, but an intense level of skill would be necessary if that were the case.

Can You Beat Khotun Khan At The Start Of Ghost Of Tsushima?

jin sakai vs khotal khan

Technically, Khotun Khan is the first boss fight in Ghost of Tsushima, and as Jin takes his broken samurai armor and his katana to free his uncle, he is forced to fight Khotun Khan on a bridge. The heavy rain and intimidating health bar of Khotun Khan will have players tensely gripping their controllers as they go in for a first strike, but they will be disheartened to know that no matter the level of Resolve or health they have, they are destined to lose.

It is not possible to beat Khotun Khan at the start of Ghost of Tsushima, and even as skilled players manage to chip away at his extensive health bar, they will find themselves disappointed that it will reach 0 and he will still fight on. Players are designed to lose during this boss fight, which is a tactic seen in many games over the years, and there is no secret early game ending to be found if players manage to beat him.

Once Jin Sakai’s health bar reaches zero, a scripted cutscene will play out, and players will have no option to retry the boss fight or start at their last checkpoint, due to the nature of this scene being an intended consequence of Jin’s actions as an honorable samurai taking the fight to Khotun Khan head on and unprepared.

Whilst players should feel encouraged to test their might against the unbeatable Khotun Khan through a variety of evades, dodges, blocks, and parries, they should not be disappointed in their ability, as this Khotun Khan boss battle is an illusion that they were scripted to lose, forcing Jin Sakai down the path to become the Ghost that Tsushima needs to best the Mongol invaders.
