A Place to Call Home is a side quest in Ghost of Tsushima that involves a cowardly peasant who leaves his family behind to the Mongol invaders in order to save his own skin. The quest involves combat and investigating clues about the family’s whereabouts so that Jin can save them. But he may be too late to help them escape their fate.

How to Start A Place to Call Home in Ghost of Tsushima

Players will be able to start the quest either by hearing the rumor or visiting the start location of the quest directly. The quest start location is directly west of the Golden Temple on the river's eastern bank. When players approach this location, they’ll hear the cry of a man lamenting a Mongol attack on his family. Talk to him to start the quest.

Following the golden bird will also lead Jin to the quest starting point, if he’s in the area.

After Jin agrees to help the Peasant save his family, follow the quest marker to a house overlooking the river that’s been overtaken by the Mongols. Use standoff to thin the herd before clearing out the rest.

Enter the house and look around until Jin comments, ‘No sign of the family here. Maybe outside.’ Exit the house and head towards the river. Examine the kicked-over laundry basket next to a small wooden dock on the riverbank. Look up over the river to notice red bloodstains covering the rocks. Examine the two bloodstains past the rocks and the white kids’ doll in the river. This brings Jin to the conclusion that the rest of the family has been slain by the Mongols.

How to Fix ‘A Place to Call Home’ Quest Bug in Ghost of Tsushima

a place to call home in ghost of tsushima

For some players, the quest progression in ‘A Place to Call Home’ gets stuck defeating the Mongols occupying the house. The next quest objective doesn’t appear, and none of the clues are interactable. There are two solutions to this:

  1. Restart from an earlier save and redo the quest.
  2. Leave the quest and return to it later in the story. Complete some main story missions or do some side quests and return to this mission, and it should let players progress the story.

If neither method is working, the only recourse left for players is to wait until a patch drops to fix the issue.
