Rumors of a follow-up to Sucker Punch Productions' hit feudal Japan-era game have been circulating the industry for years. A Ghost of Tsushima 2 Update is Long Overdue

Rumors of Ghost of Tsushima 2 have circulated for quite some time now, so an update on a potential sequel is long overdue from developer Sucker Punch.

The title in question may indeed be Ghost of Tsushima 2, as suggested by a recent scoop from entertainment industry insider Daniel "DanielRPK" Richtman. In an early June post shared on Patreon, Richtman wrote that "a Ghost of Tsushima sequel is in the works," without offering any more details on the matter. While all rumors of this sort warrant a degree of skepticism, the source of this particular claim does have a long track record of verified insights. Even so, Richtman largely owes his reputation to credible TV and movie leaks, and has only started consistently sharing gaming-related scoops somewhat recently.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 Unlikely To Release Before Late 2025 at the Very Earliest

But his latest claim is far from unprecedented, and dovetails with a number of previously emerged insights into Sucker Punch Productions' agenda. The latest such tidbit of info surfaced online in mid-May 2024, when Bloomberg's Jason Schreier also said that Ghost of Tsushima 2 is in the works while dispelling a rumor about a new Sly Cooper game being on the cards. The same move saw Schreier characterize Sucker Punch as "a one-project studio," in addition to noting that the company is smaller than most contemporary AAA developers, all in an effort to explain why Ghost of Tsushima 2 hasn't been announced just yet.

With triple-A titles regularly taking at least five years to reach the finish line nowadays, and assuming the work on Ghost of Tsushima 2 started around the time its predecessor hit the market, the new Sucker Punch game appears unlikely to debut before late 2025, at the very earliest. In the meantime, Sony is continuing the production of the Ghost of Tsushima movie adaptation, which was officially announced in March 2021, with Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame attached to the project in a director capacity.

Richtman recently even shared some insights about that undertaking, claiming that Shogun alumni Hiroyuki Sanada is being considered for a role in the Ghost of Tsushima film. Sony has yet to commit to a concrete release window for the upcoming movie.
