Ghost of Tsushima fans get some bad news related to the upcoming PlayStation Showcase event, as a new rumor suggests that a sequel will not be a part of the presentation. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima came out on PS4 in 2020, with Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut later coming to both PS4 and PS5 with new content.

Sony is hosting a special PlayStation Showcase event on Wednesday, May 24 at 1 pm PT, giving users a glimpse at new titles coming to PS5 and PS VR2. The presentation will be a bit over an hour long, and it will feature games from Sony’s first-party studios, third-party partners, and indie creators. Rumors about the contents of this showcase have been going around for a while now, with a new leak suggesting that two AAA will not get featured at the event. Assuming this rumor is true, it offers some bad news for fans of Ghost of Tsushima.

As reported by Push Square, and originally revealed by Jeff Grubb, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima will not be a part of the PlayStation Showcase event next week. Jeff talked about this news at a podcast, confirming that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will also not be a part of the showcase. Jeff Grubb has proven to be correct in the past, but players should take every leak or rumor with a grain of salt, and wait for an official announcement from the development team.

Ghost of Tsushima was a success for PlayStation, selling over 8 million copies by January 2022. It’s common for a successful new IP to get a sequel after a few years, allowing the development team to work on the criticism received for the original game and make improvements across the board. Even though it has been around three years since the release of Ghost of Tsushima, Sony has not shared any details about a sequel to the game.

Some fans probably expected to hear about Sucker Punch Productions’ next game at the PlayStation Showcase, but even if the studio is a part of the event, it doesn’t seem like a Ghost of Tsushima sequel announcement is on the cards. Regardless, Sony will reveal a ton of games from both first-party and third-party studios at the showcase, with new footage from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 expected to be the big centerpiece.

Ghost of Tsushima is available for PS4 and PS5.
