5 Not Equipping Song Of Days Past Artifact Set
For most support characters, choosing which weapon or artifact set to equip is rather versatile and dependent on the needs of the team. However, for Xianyun, Song of Days Past particularly shines. This is because it synergizes well with both parts of her kit, being a buffer as well as a healer, which allows her to not only heal more but also increase the DMG of the active character based on her healing amount. As such, differing from Ocean-Hued Clam, which also has a similar description, this artifact set allows for more damage dealt overall than having a fixed physical damage explosion at the end.
Being an Anemo support character, some may also consider equipping her with the Viridescent Venerer set for reducing enemies' resistance. However, unless players do not have access to pieces from Song of Days Past, it is still not recommended over it and only as a temporary option if players want to make the most of this character.
4 Not Realising Her Versatility
Considering that she is initially perceived as a plunge attack support character, some players may think that she is only useful for Xiao and, to some extent, for Gaming, as they are the only plunge attackers. However, while she is indeed still a little niche, her versatility goes beyond that thanks to her Elemental Burst also allowing characters to jump higher, essentially enabling plunge attacks for all characters consistently. With that being the case, many other characters can well benefit from Xianyun, such as Hu Tao, who already benefits from jumping to cancel her Charged attack animation, or those like Diluc who have very high plunging attack modifiers.

This, combined with her ability to heal the team, makes her a very versatile option, especially if players were looking to replace a high constellation Jean in their team compositions. Furthermore, although she is a support character without any constellation (however getting much more significant at her sixth constellation), she can also work as an on-field character and be an Elemental Reaction driver if players prefer that kind of a role as well.
3 Overlooking Her Elemental Skill
While Xianyun's Elemental Burst may be the most valuable part of her support abilities, players shouldn't ignore her Elemental Skill. This is because not only does her Elemental Skill allow her to gain a decent amount of Energy Particles for enabling her Elemental Burst consistently, but it also provides added benefits to plunge attacks through her second ascension passive. As such, in order to be able to trigger this passive, players need to hit as many opponents with her Elemental Skill, which then will increase the team's plunging crit rate by up to 10% if players can hit 4 or more enemies. Considering that if she plunges after her elemental skill, she can deal some AoE damage, this can be a good way to gain the stacks quicker in situations against multiple opponents.
Furthermore, Xianyun's Elemental Skill allows her to also be useful in exploration, since she can propel herself to the sky, even though her utility in this aspect is not as prominent as some other characters like the Wanderer.
2 Not Understanding How Her Elemental Burst Works
Xianyun's Elemental Burst is the most extensive part of her kit, meaning that players should pay particularly good attention to ensuring that it is used off cooldown. Luckily, while the cooldown of her burst is quite long at 18 seconds, the duration of the elemental burst is also pretty extensive with 16 seconds, which allows for near-permanent uptime as long as players pay attention to their energy regeneration. The reason why this Elemental Burst is quite useful is that it is where both her healing and the majority of her buffs come from. Upon summoning, Xianyun will heal all allies and will also further continuously heal the nearby characters. From a buff perspective, on the other hand, she will have 8 stacks of Adeptal Assistance, which allows the characters to jump higher as long as there are stacks. Each plunging attack consumes one stack, meaning that players should aim to perform around this number of plunging attacks per rotation.
Additionally, this may look like it's the end of the benefits; however, her last ascension passive significantly boosts the plunging attacks, which may be overlooked by some players at first. Accordingly, the plunging DMG shockwave of the characters will also be increased as long as there are any Adeptal Assistance stacks remaining, allowing the active character to deal more damage. The summoned Starwicker will also deal additional Anemo damage with each plunging attack, which significantly helps with Xianyun being a driver, as it can swirl other applied elements with each plunge.
1 Not Prioritizing Her ATK Stat
While energy regeneration is undoubtedly significant for being able to upkeep her Elemental Burst consistently, players should pay attention to her ATK stat in particular. This is because every aspect of her kit, including healing, dealing DMG, as well as buffing the plunging attacks, all scale with her ATK. As such, when picking the right weapon and artifact options, players should aim for these stats through the secondary stat, main stat, and sub-stats. This being the case, Xianyun becomes relatively easy to build with generally only 2 stats to pay attention to, although in some team compositions, she can also benefit from Elemental Mastery.
