Now that the Sumeru region of Genshin Impact has been released, HoYoverse is unveiling its newest playable characters. Update 3.0 came with the first playable Dendro characters, Tighnari and Collei, plus the Electro user Dori. Now, the community theorizes that update 3.1 will bring Cyno, another Electro user, to the roster.

Genshin Impact character Cyno made an official appearance way back during the game’s story trailer “Travail.” He also played a minor role in the Genshin Impact manga, where he visited Mondstadt and met Collei. HoYoverse has since released more information on his character, but there are also plenty of leaks to dive into.

Official Information on Cyno of Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact Cyno

Cyno is an Electro Polearm user based in Sumeru of Genshin Impact. According to his introductory article, he holds the title of “General Mahamatra.” The role has him look out for academic scholars who further their research through unscrupulous means, such as plagiarism, fraud, misappropriation of funds, and other such methods.

Before the events of Genshin Impact, he traveled to Mondstadt at Lisa’s request. There, he saved Collei of Genshin Impact from the negative aftereffects of the archon residue experiments and brought her to Sumeru with him. This suggests that Cyno is somewhat of a scholar himself, with an understanding of the archons’ power and how it affects mortals.

Collei and Tighnari of Genshin Impact have voice lines talking about Cyno. Collei admits that she prefers not to talk about him because despite him being her savior, he brings back bad memories about her past. Tighnari reveals a bit more, citing his position as General Mahamatra and how seriously he takes it. Aside from that, he notes that Cyno visits Gandharva Ville – where he’s stationed – to check on Collei every now and then. Cyno is also mentioned briefly in Tighnari’s Character Story, where it’s said that the general approved of the Forest Ranger’s research.

Genshin Impact Cyno Leaks

As for the Genshin Impact leaks on Cyno, the most notable one reveals his full kit. His Elemental Skill has him thrust his Polearm, dealing Electro Damage to all opponents in his path. Meanwhile, Cyno’s Elemental Burst is similar to Razor’s as he calls on a spirit that imbues him with Electro energy. He foregoes his weapon and, instead, slashes at enemies with his claws, dealing Electro Damage. Should Cyno use his Elemental Skill while his Burst effect is active, it will deal AoE Electro Damage.

Other leaks delve into Cyno’s personality. Many in the community already know that he’s a card game nerd, but leaker SYP adds that as a general, Cyno is “ethical, always prepared, [and] adheres to a strict personal code.” Because of this and his reputation, people think he’s a stoic and intimidating individual. He also has reservations when it comes to the Sumeru Akademiya because he’s seen what its scholars are willing to do for the pursuit of knowledge. In this regard, he’s very similar to Lisa of Genshin Impact.

On a lighter note, Cyno’s voice line leaks reveal that he likes telling jokes – or at least trying to. Leaker SYP explains that Cyno is prone to laughing at his own jokes. Also, those who hear Cyno’s jokes are forced to laugh along because he tends to explain the joke when they don’t. Leaker UBatcha then adds that Cyno is aware that his jokes aren’t funny. He just tells them anyway to lighten the mood because people are intimidated by his serious demeanor all the time.

Cyno is supposedly slated for release in Genshin Impact update 3.1, alongside 5-Star Nilou and 4-Star Candace. Of course, this is still subject to change based on HoYoverse’s announcements. Though considering that the developer is currently promoting him on Genshin Impact’s social media accounts, a 3.1 banner release seems to be the most likely outcome.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, and a Nintendo Switch version is in development.
